PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. are urging the public to stay vigilant against cybersecurity threats that can compromise their devices and personal data.
In 2022, PLDT and Smart's Cyber Security Operations Group (CSOG) stopped over 182 million attempts to breach the group's digital infrastructure, thanks to over 123 million indicators of compromise used for cyber-attack correlation.
The CSOG emphasizes that human behavior is a significant contributor to cybersecurity incidents. According to a World Economic Forum study, 95% of cybersecurity issues stem from human error, often due to a lack of knowledge and awareness that leaves users exposed to vulnerabilities.
As such, PLDT and Smart are building a culture of cybersecurity in their workforce and are now extending the same mindset to their customers. The #CyberSmart initiatives aim to educate the public and promote awareness of cybersecurity to prevent falling prey to cyber-attacks.
Additionally, CSOG regularly conducts phishing simulations to employees to promote awareness and reporting of potential cyber threats. This has led to a 574% increase in employee reporting since 2019, and the number of employees falling for the simulations has decreased over the years.
By beefing up the cybersecurity of their digital infrastructure, PLDT and Smart aim to elevate Filipinos' experience by keeping customers and the country safe from threats and attacks, furthering their commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Remember, as Angel Redoble, FVP and Chief Information Security Officer of PLDT and Smart, warned, "One of the biggest risks is a person's behavior or attitude toward cybersecurity." Stay safe and cyber smart!
