Security Bank, Angat Pinas, and BUSOE Launch Cacao Farming and Poultry Livelihood Project in Malinao

Security Bank Corporation (SBC) has teamed up with Angat Pinas, Inc. and Beacon for the Upliftment of Status of Everyone (BUSOE) Inc. to launch the Integrated Community Development Project in Malinao, Aklan. The initiative aims to enhance food security, livelihood, and sustainability for local farmers and solo parents in the community.

BUSOE — an Aklanon term for “seed” — is a non-government organization dedicated to planting seeds of volunteerism, hope, and opportunity in Aklan. Based in New Washington and Kinalangay Viejo in Malinao, the group runs community food gardens, cacao plantations, and wilderness rescue projects. Malinao, with its 23 barangays, is known as a cultural heritage site and eco-tourism haven, and is now working towards an inclusive, sustainable economy for its residents.

Security Bank’s one-year grant to BUSOE will support cacao plantation, poultry raising, and wilderness rescue initiatives in Brgy. Kinalangay Viejo, Malinao. Forty solo parents and farmers will benefit from rescue and farming equipment, including chainsaws, grass cutters, bolos, hoes, and spades, to prepare land for planting and respond to emergencies. The project will also provide 500 cacao seedlings to develop an eco-tourism plantation and poultry kits to generate a steady income while the cacao matures.

The program will be strengthened through capacity-building sessions from the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute, covering farming techniques, livestock care, and rescue operations. These will be complemented by seminars on psychosocial support, social education, and values formation to equip beneficiaries with both technical skills and the mindset to manage their livelihoods effectively.

By integrating agriculture, income generation, and wilderness rescue preparedness, the project aims to create lasting economic opportunities while enhancing community safety.

This effort builds on SBC’s earlier collaboration with Angat Buhay through the Go Organic Kabukiran – Angat Nueva Ecija project, which supported Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in organic fertilizer production, continuing the Bank’s mission to enrich lives, empower businesses, and build sustainable communities.

Sustainable Impact and Future Plans
Together with its partners, Security Bank envisions the Integrated Community Development Project as a catalyst for broader change—one that not only strengthens livelihoods in Malinao but also serves as a model for nearby communities. By proving that agriculture, income generation, and disaster preparedness can work hand in hand, the Bank hopes to inspire similar initiatives across the region, creating a ripple effect of sustainable growth and community empowerment.
