Smart, TNT reiterate need to extend SIM Registration process

PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications has expressed its support for the extension of the SIM registration deadline in the Philippines. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently issued a statement rejecting the appeal of public telecommunication entities (PTEs) for an extension of the SIM registration deadline. Smart leads the telco industry with over 36.5 million or 55.1% of its subscribers already registered, but the company is appealing for more time to allow its remaining 45% subscriber base to register.

PLDT and Smart FVP and Group Head for Corporate Communications, Cathy Yang, noted that extending the deadline will give subscribers ample time to register and obtain the necessary identification proofs. She said that the company doesn't want to alienate or leave behind those who have not yet registered. Smart and its value brand TNT continues to provide physical assistance for SIM registration at several touchpoints all over the Philippines in collaboration with the DICT, NTC, DILG, and other partners. This initiative aims to help those who may need assistance in registering their SIMs, particularly senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and those using non-data phones.

New and existing Smart Prepaid and TNT subscribers may also visit PLDT and Smart stores, or access Smart’s SIM registration portal through https://simreg.smart.com.ph/. Postpaid users can text YES to 5858, while Enterprise customers can confirm their registration through their authorized representatives.
