Tomorrow.io and NIA Partner to Bring AI-Powered Weather Intelligence to Philippine Farmers

Manila, Philippines – Tomorrow.io, a global leader in weather intelligence and trusted technology partner of U.S. agencies like NOAA, NASA, and the Department of Defense, has entered into a landmark partnership with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in the Philippines. The goal: to help Filipino farmers navigate volatile climate conditions and boost agricultural productivity through artificial intelligence.

In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA), this initiative introduces Tomorrow.io’s cutting-edge, AI-driven weather forecasting technology to Philippine farmlands. Powered by a proprietary constellation of low-orbit satellites, Tomorrow.io provides micro-level weather data and plot-specific forecasts. This innovation offers farmers real-time insights, such as the best times to irrigate or apply pesticides—decisions critical to maximizing yield and minimizing losses.

“The Philippines’ unique geography and dispersed farming communities pose major challenges for traditional, ground-based weather systems,” said Shimon Elkabetz, Co-Founder and CEO of Tomorrow.io. “Our space-based satellite constellation was designed specifically to overcome those challenges and deliver real-time, high-resolution weather data even in the most remote areas.”

The partnership comes at a critical time, as the southwest monsoon (habagat) begins to impact the country, ushering in the rainy season. In 2024 alone, extreme weather events caused ₱57.78 billion in agricultural damages, affecting more than 1.4 million farmers and fishers. Nearly 1 million hectares of farmland were impacted, leading to the loss of 2.19 million metric tons in production.

By integrating Tomorrow.io’s weather intelligence with government efforts, the collaboration empowers farmers with the tools they need to make data-driven decisions. This includes early warnings for severe weather, optimized irrigation schedules, and risk management strategies that are vital in today’s unpredictable climate.

Tomorrow.io’s platform processes high-resolution atmospheric data through advanced physics-based and AI-powered models, producing highly accurate forecasts. These insights are delivered through a scalable software platform, allowing users to respond proactively to changing weather patterns.

Beyond agriculture, the licensing agreement opens opportunities for Tomorrow.io to extend its services into other essential sectors such as shipping and aviation, where accurate weather information is crucial for safety and operational efficiency.

This partnership not only marks a step forward in building climate resilience in Philippine agriculture but also sets a new standard for how emerging technologies can support sustainable development in vulnerable regions.
