MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Filipino basketball fans had a rare opportunity to get up close with two of the sport’s most celebrated figures as NBA champion Jason Kidd and WNBA legend Lauren Jackson joined an intimate Vivo x NBA meet-and-greet at the Vivo Concept Store in SM Megamall.
Held on August 28, the exclusive gathering brought Kidd and Jackson together with 30 selected fans for an afternoon filled with basketball stories, career insights, and personal interactions. The two Hall of Famers reflected on the experiences that shaped their decorated careers, including dealing with pressure, learning from failure, building strong relationships with teammates, and continuing to grow beyond the basketball court.
Lessons from Basketball Legends
For Kidd, whose career includes an NBA championship, 10 All-Star selections, Olympic gold, Hall of Fame recognition, and coaching success, one of the most important lessons has been learning to appreciate every stage of the journey.
“Enjoy it,” Kidd shared, emphasizing the importance of appreciating the moment despite the intense competitiveness of professional basketball.
He also spoke candidly about failure and the value of taking responsibility for mistakes. According to Kidd, setbacks are inevitable, but learning from them is what ultimately matters.
His message resonated with Jervey Limjoco of Mandaluyong, a self-proclaimed No. 1 Jason Kidd fan in the Philippines. Limjoco highlighted Kidd’s leadership, court vision, passing ability, and talent for making the players around him better.
Jackson, a three-time WNBA MVP, two-time WNBA champion, Olympic medalist, and Hall of Famer, also reflected on her remarkable journey, including her return to basketball following an eight-year break.
Her advice to young athletes was straightforward: create space for the game, enjoy it, and allow themselves to love the sport.
The conversation eventually led to the event’s highly anticipated meet-and-greet. Fans had the opportunity to personally meet Kidd and Jackson, receive exclusive posters, and take official photos with the basketball icons.
Capturing Basketball Moments Through Technology
The event also explored how smartphone technology has transformed the way fans experience and preserve special moments.
Kidd noted how smartphones make it easier to stay connected with family and friends, while Jackson pointed out how technology can bring distant sporting events closer to fans through their phones.
That idea was showcased during the event as the Vivo X300 Ultra captured Kidd and Jackson alongside Filipino fans and livestreamed the gathering.
Featuring Triple ZEISS Master Lenses and telephoto capabilities reaching up to 400mm with ZEISS Telephoto Extenders, the Vivo X300 Ultra is designed to bring distant subjects closer while preserving important moments in detail.
The Vivo X300 Ultra is available for ₱109,999 at Vivo Concept Stores nationwide and the Vivo e-store.
