Toaplan’s Classic Shoot-’Em-Ups Return in Flying Fire Shark Collection

Karlstad, Sweden — Retro gaming fans are getting another chance to experience some of Toaplan’s most celebrated arcade classics as Clear River Games announces Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark. The collection brings together a selection of influential shoot-’em-ups and launched globally last August 29, 2026, for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, with both digital and physical editions available.

At the heart of the compilation are two legendary titles: Flying Shark and Fire Shark. Developed by Japanese studio Toaplan, the games helped shape the vertical-scrolling shoot-’em-up genre. Flying Shark earned recognition for its carefully balanced difficulty and straightforward gameplay, while Fire Shark raised the stakes with powerful, screen-filling weaponry and intense arcade action.

The collection is designed to appeal to longtime arcade enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Arcade Mode delivers an authentic classic arcade experience, while Super Easy Mode provides a more approachable way for beginners to learn the mechanics and gradually develop their skills.

Several additional features enhance the experience. M2 Gadgets provide useful information around the playing field, helping players identify blind spots, upcoming items, and hidden features. Meanwhile, Arcade Challenge Mode breaks stages into smaller sections, allowing players to practice individual areas. A rewind function can also automatically activate when a player's ship is hit in Challenge Mode, making it easier to improve and pursue the coveted one-credit clear.

The main collection contains six versions of the game: Flying Shark (Worldwide arcade), Sky Shark (US arcade), Hisho Same (Japanese arcade), Fire Shark (Worldwide arcade), Same! Same! Same! (Japanese arcade), and Same! Same! Same! (Japanese two-player arcade).

Physical and digital owners will also have access to extensive DLC featuring console adaptations and additional arcade classics. The Flying Fire Shark – Wardner DLC includes versions of Sky Shark, Same! Same! Same!, and Fire Shark, alongside Wardner, Wardner no Mori, Pyros, and the Japanese-language Famicom Disk System version of Wardner no Mori.

Adding even more value, Toaplan's 1991 puzzle game Teki-Paki will be offered as a free download to purchasers of any Toaplan Arcade Garage title. Its challenging match-five gameplay and industrial techno soundtrack provide a different but equally competitive retro experience, complete with online leaderboards and elite gameplay sessions.
