Globe supports employee welfare and local communities in recovering from Typhoon Odette

The devastation that Typhoon Odette brought was felt across several areas in the Philippines–mainly Palawan, and the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Globe’s own employees were not spared. At least 630 employees were affected by the severe weather disturbance.

In response, Globe has released initial cash assistance for all affected employees and partnered with PureGo and the Ayala Group to deliver relief goods.

The internal #ALAGANGGLOBE donation drive has so far collected over P750,000, with employees contributing to augment support for their fellow ka-Globe across the country.

Through its sister company Ayala Land, Inc., Globe is also providing temporary shelter for those whose homes were severely damaged. It is also offering home restoration support with interest-free company loans, Ayala Cooperative loan products,  and Globe Cooperative loan products.

“Our people are the most important resource. Our Crisis Team has been working tirelessly in ensuring that our fellow ka-Globe and their families have access to essentials during this time,” said Ato Jiao, Globe Chief Human Resource Officer.

He added, “As our people work to help the Filipino communities in Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan restore the connection to communication services, we will continue to support our employees and their families’ needs so that we may all bounce back from this endeavor together.”

Jiao also highlighted how employees on the field are the most vulnerable during this time.  They are the first to respond to any network emergency and are constantly finding ways – trekking along impassable roads and flooded places – to keep communications services running.

Globe has activated all of its disaster response teams to support various response and recovery activities, including monitoring of network restorations, internal and external coordination, funds disbursement, site restoration, communications support deployment,  and delivery of relief goods, among others.

The company has allotted budgets and food provisions to support on-site duty personnel and employees in charge of network restoration. Globe has also ensured that the office in Cebu can be accessible to employees as safe workstations and that there is enough diesel fuel for the generators.  Satellite phones were also provided to support teams.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development, and UN SDG No. 13, which underscores the importance of climate action to save lives and livelihoods to address climate emergencies.  It is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.
