SM Supermalls Rolls Out More Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for Convenient Road Trips

Electric vehicles have become a popular choice for many people, with the rise of eco-consciousness and concerns about air pollution. And now, road trips using electric vehicles are much more convenient, thanks to the additional electric vehicle charging stations rolled out by SM Supermalls nationwide.

Initially, SM Supermalls started with a rollout of 15 EV charging stations in Metro Manila in 2022 and one in SM City Baguio. However, the company is now expanding its reach and will be opening EV charging stations in multiple locations, from Luzon to Mindanao. This way, shoppers and travelers can charge their vehicles anywhere, as long as there is an SM mall nearby.

The locations where the new charging stations will be installed include SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown, SM City Clark, SM City Trece Martires, and SM City Sta. Rosa, Sky Ranch Tagaytay, SM City Naga, SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, SM City CDO Uptown, SM CDO Downtown Premier, and SM Lanang Premier.

Each of these SM malls will have one Wallbox Pulsar Plus AC charger, with a charging power of up to 7.4kW and a 5m integrated charging cable. The charger is compatible with all type 2 electric cars, including popular models from Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Range Rover, Renault, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche, Tesla, Volkswagen, Volvo, Nissan, Mitsubishi, BYD, Weltmeister, and Chery.

The charging stations are open from 10 am to 10 pm daily, and best of all, charging your electric vehicle at SM is completely free. This is the first time a mall chain has established in-mall electric vehicle charging sites in the Philippines, with multiple installed chargers in 27 malls nationwide.

The free EV charging station is part of SM Supermalls' Zero Emissions agenda, aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and addressing air pollution concerns in the country. It is also in line with the SM Green Movement, which encourages Filipinos to make sustainable lifestyle choices, including the use of electric vehicles as a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional forms of transportation.

The initiative was made possible through SM Supermalls' partnership with the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Trade and Industry, with the goal of accelerating the government's sustainability initiatives.
