In celebration of Women’s Month, YGG Pilipinas hosted a panel discussion titled “Moms in the Metaverse” at the Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) Caravan Press Conference.
The session, moderated by Metaversity Co-lead Jenna Ilao, featured Julie Soriano (Mommy Influencer and Events Manager, YGG Pilipinas) and April Agregado (Mompreneur and Manager of SeviLovesArt). Together, they shared their experiences in balancing family life while exploring new opportunities in Web3.
From Skeptics to Believers: A New Path in Web3
April Agregado’s Web3 journey began in 2021 when a trusted friend introduced her to NFTs. Initially hesitant, she soon recognized its potential to showcase her son Sevi’s artwork. Diagnosed with autism at two years old, Sevi discovered his creative expression through painting. Thanks to NFTs and digital art communities, April was able to share his talent globally.
Meanwhile, Julie Soriano was introduced to Web3 through Axie Infinity, a game she played with her daughter. What started as a fun hobby soon led to professional opportunities in event management and community leadership within YGG Pilipinas.
“Working as an MFW gives me flexible hours. I can earn while helping my children with homework, without the stress of commuting,” Soriano shared. “When you’re stressed, you lose energy. When you lose energy, you lose patience. Web3 gave me a new path.”
Flexible Work and Financial Empowerment
Both speakers emphasized how Web3 careers offer flexibility and financial empowerment, allowing them to earn without sacrificing family time. However, they also acknowledged the learning curve, especially when it came to understanding crypto wallets, security, and blockchain technology.
“At first, I had no idea I was messaging Web3 leaders like Gabby Dizon and Colin Goltra directly,” Agregado recalled. “But having mentors and supportive communities helped me navigate the space.”
Breaking Web3 Misconceptions
A common misconception is that Web3 is solely about play-to-earn gaming or quick financial schemes. Both speakers challenged this, emphasizing that Web3 also fosters education, digital art, and financial independence.
Advice for Moms Entering Web3
For mothers curious about Web3, the speakers shared three key takeaways:
- Join the right communities – Groups like Crypto Art PH and YGG Pilipinas provide support and networking.
- Educate yourself – Platforms like Metaversity offer beginner-friendly blockchain courses.
- Take the leap, but do so wisely – Research, seek mentors, and prioritize digital security.
A Future Shaped by Web3
The discussion highlighted how Web3 empowers Filipino moms by providing financial opportunities, career growth, and work-life balance. “Web3 allows us to thrive without sacrificing family time. If you’re a mom thinking about entering, start learning today,” Soriano encouraged.
