Eastern Communications, a premier telecommunications and ICT solutions provider, has partnered with global non-profit organization unconnected.org to bring essential internet connectivity to ten Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This collaboration marks a significant step toward promoting digital literacy and inclusion in underserved communities.
As part of this initiative, Eastern Communications will provide free internet access to students, teachers, and local residents in ten remote schools, starting with eight target locations: Dipolog, General Santos, Tuguegarao, Naga, Kalibo, Bais, Davao, and Zamboanga. This effort supports Eastern’s mission of empowering unconnected communities and ensuring that access to the digital world becomes a right rather than a privilege.
“We believe that access to the internet is no longer a privilege, but a basic need, especially for education and access to vital information,” said Jed Estanislao, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer of Eastern Communications. “Through this partnership with unconnected.org, not only can we help bridge the digital divide but also drive digital literacy, especially in far-flung areas.”
The program officially kicked off with a ceremonial signing and planning session attended by representatives from both Eastern Communications and unconnected.org. This milestone demonstrates a shared commitment to nation-building and long-term investment in the education and future of rural communities.
Reliable internet connectivity will allow students in these remote schools to enhance their learning with updated online materials, access interactive educational platforms, and open doors to opportunities that were previously out of reach. However, the partnership doesn’t stop at connectivity. Eastern and unconnected.org are also launching digital literacy programs designed to teach both students and educators how to responsibly and effectively utilize online tools.
“This initiative reflects Eastern’s continued commitment to nation-building. By providing not just connectivity but also the tools to use it responsibly and effectively, we are investing in the future of these communities,” Estanislao emphasized.
With this forward-thinking partnership, Eastern Communications reaffirms its role as a digital enabler, using technology as a catalyst for inclusive growth and educational progress.
