Taiwan Expo 2026 Brings AI, Cybersecurity and Smart Automation to Philippines as Digital Economy Expands

MANILA, Philippines - As artificial intelligence, automation, and digital services take on a greater role in the Philippine economy, Taiwanese technology companies are bringing enterprise AI, cybersecurity, and smart manufacturing solutions to Manila through Taiwan Expo 2026 in the Philippines.

The technologies arrive as the Philippine digital economy continues to grow. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country's digital economy reached PHP2.74 trillion in 2025, equivalent to 9.8 percent of gross domestic product, representing 5.4 percent year-on-year growth.

As more businesses move operations and services online, cybersecurity risks are also becoming more sophisticated. In July 2026, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas urged banks and other regulated institutions to strengthen cybersecurity measures in response to risks associated with advances in artificial intelligence, including the possibility of cybercriminals using AI to identify vulnerabilities and automate attacks at greater scale.

Against this backdrop, the Intelligent Technology Pavilion will showcase Taiwanese solutions spanning Artificial Intelligence of Things, edge computing, smart automation, advanced ICT, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure.

Among the technologies being presented are AI-powered person tracking and facial recognition security systems, collaborative robots designed for manufacturing environments, forklift safety technologies for warehouse and logistics operations, and zero-trust cybersecurity frameworks for enterprises.

For Philippine manufacturers and logistics operators, these technologies offer potential applications in productivity, workplace safety and automation. For banks, corporations and other increasingly digital businesses, the cybersecurity technologies provide another layer of solutions for protecting systems, data and connected infrastructure.

The Expo is also building on a proven commercial platform. Taiwan Expo 2025 attracted more than 10,000 visitors and buyers and generated approximately US$53.4 million in business opportunities.

Philippine technology buyers, system integrators, manufacturers, distributors and corporate decision-makers will again have opportunities to meet participating Taiwanese companies directly through the Expo's enhanced Business Matching Program.

Taiwan Expo 2026 brings together more than 125 Taiwanese enterprises at the SMX Convention Center Manila from September 17 to 19.

PLDT Powers PPCRV-AMA Command Center for Historic BARMM Parliamentary Elections

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting transparent, credible, and technology-enabled elections as it joined the launch of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV)-AMA Command Center for the unofficial parallel count of the first regular Parliamentary Elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

The event, held at the PPCRV-AMA Command Center located at AMA School of Medicine Annex in Makati City, brought together key leaders and partners in the electoral process, including PPCRV Chair Emeritus and Co-Founder Henrietta de Villa, PPCRV National Chairperson Evelyn Singson, Commission on Elections Chairman George Garcia, AMA Group of Companies Chairman Amb. Amable R. Aguiluz V, and PLDT representatives led by PLDT Chief Operating Officer Menardo G. Jimenez Jr.

"Elections are more transparent when connectivity is secure and reliable. Our part in this partnership with PPCRV is to make sure their connectivity is robust, resilient, reliable, and responsive. This helps volunteers and election stakeholders carry out their work with confidence. We are privileged and honored to continue being part of this initiative that safeguards and strengthens public trust," said Jimenez, adding that PLDT will also help boost initiatives that promote informed civic participation, highlighting opportunities for future collaboration on voter education programs aimed at helping Filipinos, particularly the youth, become more engaged in the electoral process.

PLDT’s support for the PPCRV-AMA Command Center is part of the Group’s broader support for the historic BARMM Parliamentary Elections. Earlier, PLDT announced that its VITRO data centers will be housing critical servers that will receive data directly transmitted by automated counting machines for the BARMM elections.

PLDT’s wireless arm, Smart Communications Inc (Smart), is also providing prepaid SIMs with load to support election coordination and monitoring activities.

These initiatives form part of PLDT’s longstanding support for election modernization efforts. Through its extensive network infrastructure, connectivity solutions, and data center capabilities, the Group continues to help empower institutions with the digital tools needed to carry out critical public functions, advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The PLDT Group's continued collaboration with government and civil society organizations reflects its commitment to supporting stronger institutions through technology and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

PCCI Commends DepEd for Strong Gains in 2025 PISA Results

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) today congratulated the Department of Education (DepEd), led by Secretary Sonny Angara, for the country's significant improvement in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The Philippines recorded gains of 16 to 20 points across reading, mathematics, and science, including a 20-point increase in reading, equivalent to roughly one year of formal schooling based on OECD benchmarks. The country also moved out of the bottom ten participating education systems and posted its strongest reading performance improvement to date.

"PCCI congratulates Secretary Angara and the entire DepEd team on this important achievement," said PCCI President Perry Ferrer. "These results show that focused reforms, sustained commitment, and evidence-based interventions can lead to real improvements in learning outcomes for Filipino students," PCCI noted that the gains reflect the impact of DepEd's initiatives, including curriculum enhancements, targeted remediation programs, and the work of the PISA 2025 Task Force.

The Chamber further encouraged DepEd to complement PISA with other indicators that assess whether learners are acquiring the competencies needed for lifelong learning, employment, and active citizenship. PCCI emphasized the importance of sustaining reform efforts and accelerating the implementation of the recommendations of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II). "The positive results are encouraging; they strengthen our resolve to pursue the policy reforms that remain urgently needed," Ferrer said. "The recommendations of EDCOM II provide a clear roadmap for addressing long-standing challenges in the education sector and must be translated into concrete action."

PCCI likewise underscored the importance of reviewing the alignment and coordination of the country's trifocalized education system, recognizing that basic education, while foundational, must be effectively linked with technical-vocational and higher education to ensure a more productive, equitable, and quality education system. "As the voice of Philippine business, we believe strengthening basic education is essential and must be complemented by better alignment across the entire education continuum."

Ferrer added. "Our goal should be an education system that equips every Filipino learner with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.
We have recommended this in our PCCI Education Task Force paper, Reform Our Education, Transform Our Future.” PCCI reaffirmed its commitment to work with DepEd and other stakeholders in advancing reforms that strengthen educational outcomes and build a globally competitive Filipino workforce.

GCash for Business Powers Cashless Shopping for Over 200 Filipino Artisans at the 2026 Designers’ Holiday Bazaar

GCash for Business is teaming up with the Designers’ Holiday Bazaar (DHB) for the second year to champion Filipino craftsmanship and help local makers and businesses thrive in the digital economy.

The country’s #1 finance superapp equips more than 200 local artisans and MSMEs with digital finance solutions that make payments easier and customer transactions faster during one of the country’s busiest retail seasons.

Carrying the theme “Sinag,” this year’s Designers’ Holiday Bazaar expands its nationwide reach across three major Ayala Malls: September 3–6, 2026 at Ayala Malls Abreeza, Davao City; October 14–18, 2026 at TriNoma Activity Center, Quezon City; and November 27–December 6, 2026 across Glorietta and the Ayala Museum, Makati City.

The bazaar continues to support Filipino and homegrown brands, designers, and artisans by giving them a platform to showcase their work and reach more consumers. This year’s Sinag run features a new lineup of local brands, from fashion and food to home and lifestyle. Among them are Lulu Tan Gan, ANMARI & CO., Liwayway PH, Tia Lacson, NiƱo Franco, Yvette’s Collections, Kathryn Fanlo, T'NALAK HOME, Auro Chocolate Cafe, Vicky’s Pili & Food Products, and Grateful Bread.

More than a shopping destination, Designers’ Holiday Bazaar celebrates Filipino creativity, connects designers and artisans nationwide, and brings local craftsmanship to a wider audience. It also supports small businesses and traditional crafts, with proceeds helping fund academic and dance scholarships for Filipino youth.

For GCash for Business, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to giving MSMEs access to enterprise-grade payment, financing, and digital tools that simplify operations and help local entrepreneurs enter their “Easy Era” of growth.

“At its heart, the Designers’ Holiday Bazaar has always been about a single, inspiring mission: to empower and promote our local entrepreneurs. At GCash, we share in that vision and are committed to helping business owners succeed through easy payment solutions,” shares Neil Trinidad, chief marketing officer of GCash.

The partnership builds on the GCash for Business support for DHB merchants last year, when it introduced GCash SoundPay and GCash PocketPay to make digital payments easier. SoundPay provides real-time audio payment confirmations, while GCash PocketPay enables card and QR payments through an NFC-enabled Android phone.

This year, merchants will have access to upgraded solutions for faster, more seamless transactions. For food and beverage merchants, GCash SoundPay Plus accepts QRPh and card payments on one machine, with loud audio confirmations that instantly signal successful payments.

For retail brands, GCash EasyPOS is a heavy-duty checkout terminal that lets customers scan, swipe, or tap to pay, keeping checkout quick and efficient.

The GCash for Business Portal gives merchants a centralized view of sales, payouts, and business performance, helping reduce time spent reconciling transactions. Its starter plan also offers a ₱5 million e-wallet limit with a GCash Verified account, giving businesses more room to manage and grow.

The bazaar will also feature a GCash booth where merchants and shoppers can explore GCash for Business, access card printing and Tap to Pay, and enjoy prizes and raffle entries when they transact using GCash.

Beyond payments, the partnership reflects GCash and DHB’s shared commitment to helping Filipino MSMEs grow. MSMEs account for around 90% of businesses and 63% of local employment, making their growth vital to communities and the broader economy.

Catch the “Sinag” edition of the Designers’ Holiday Bazaar in Davao, Quezon City, and Makati, and discover Filipino brands and makers bringing local creativity to life. For event details, follow @designersholidaybazaar on Instagram and Designers’ Holiday Bazaar on Facebook.

E-Commerce Mentorship Program LaunchStrong Marks First Year, Helping Over 150 Filipino Founders Build E-Commerce Brands

Manila, Philippines — PH-founded e-commerce mentorship program LaunchStrong marks its first year, having mentored over 150 first-time Filipino founders and facilitated the development of more than 100 homegrown brands at various stages to date. The milestone highlights a growing movement of aspiring Filipino entrepreneurs turning raw concepts into viable, more accessible, and market-ready consumer products.

Founded in 2025 by entrepreneur Jungie Gumiran, LaunchStrong is a five-week live mentorship program designed to help aspiring Filipino founders navigate the early stages of building an e-commerce business. The program covers mentorship on product ideation and validation, supplier sourcing, positioning, pricing, branding, launch strategy, customer acquisition, and early-stage growth.

Based on its data, about 80% of first-time founders who joined the program without an existing product or e-commerce background have successfully progressed toward launching their first online business.

The program has supported brands across categories including wellness and supplements, food and beverage, personal care, pet care, and fashion. Among the brands developed through LaunchStrong are wellness brands Eat Move Love and Pharmatrust, food brand Magic Bowl, Bathcare Tonios, Filipino clothing brand TELA Pinoy, and pet care brand NanaPro Litter.

“E-commerce in the Philippines is becoming much easier to enter, but harder to win,” said Gumiran. “Opening a marketplace store or having a good product is no longer enough. Aspiring founders can generate sales and still lose money if they don’t fully understand business economics, platform fees, logistics, inventory, and cash flow. Success, more than just the launch, is making better decisions before putting hard-earned capital at risk so the business can survive and scale.”

Gumiran’s practitioner-led approach stems from his experience scaling his own homegrown wellness brand, JUJU Lifestyle. Founded in 2021, JUJU has served more than 300,000 customers and expanded to over 20 retail partners within its first year of entering physical retail, including SouthStar Drug, HeyDay, Wellness Plus, and various specialty clinics and fitness studios. Gumiran also brings lessons from scaling digital marketing agency frameworks and experiencing major early-stage setbacks, which shaped his focus on risk mitigation and strict product validation.

Through his educational platform, AdsLevelUp, Gumiran has also coached over 30,000 CEOs, freelancers, marketers, and business owners across 200+ training sessions and workshops since 2019.

Entering its second year, LaunchStrong aims to continue supporting more aspiring and first-time Filipino founders across every stage of building a brand— from ideation, validation, supplier sourcing, positioning, pricing, branding, launch, customer acquisition, and early-stage growth.

“Our vision is to give first-time founders the practical perspective to realize that they can build a brand from scratch, regardless of where they are starting from,” Gumiran said. “In our second year, we want to equip more Filipinos with the skills, discipline, and execution capability to build sustainable consumer brands that can compete nationally and eventually scale beyond the Philippines.”

The program is set to launch its next five-week live mentorship cohort in December 2026, bringing together entrepreneurs to discuss the practical challenges of building and scaling e-commerce businesses.

Diversifying Your Investment: How to Make the Leap from Gold to Bitcoin

Gold has always been a go-to safety net for protecting money, but today’s investors aren't stopping there. More and more people are pairing traditional assets with newer digital investments to get the best of both worlds: securing their wealth and giving their money room to grow.

Adding digital gold to the mix is a strategic way to build lasting wealth—and it's catching on fast across the region. A report by The Economist highlights that Asian countries account for 64.5% of global demand for gold jewelry and bullion, while the World Gold Council noted that digital gold products have seen a major breakout in recent years.

But sticking only to traditional gold and stocks can mean missing out on bigger returns. That’s why many investors view Bitcoin as a complementary pair for gold when it comes to building a well-rounded portfolio.

“Today, Filipinos are looking for ways to protect the value of their hard-earned money amid everyday financial pressures," says Alden Paul Yburan, Head of GCrypto. "By offering digital gold and curated crypto options side-by-side, GCash aims to enable users to build long-term financial resilience and balance their portfolios right within a platform they already trust.”

Why Gold Investors are Looking at Bitcoin

Digital gold offers the stability and inflation hedge traditionally associated with physical gold, holding its ground when the economy gets rocky. However, the digital version eliminates the logistical baggage of physical ownership—there’s no need for trips to a jeweler, no massive upfront cashouts, and zero worry about secure vault storage.

Building on this foundation, investors looking to accelerate portfolio growth are increasingly turning to Bitcoin. As a decentralized digital asset, it has established itself as one of the fastest-growing investments over the last five years, outperforming many traditional funds and local stocks.

A study by Bitwise notes that adding a manageable allocation of Bitcoin to a diversified portfolio has historically improved risk-adjusted returns, allowing investors to increase potential returns without proportionately increasing the portfolio's overall risk.

Bitcoin also operates on global networks that trade 24/7, giving one the ability to manage or convert your holdings right from your phone. Because its price movements are generally independent of traditional markets, it ensures the portfolio is not entirely exposed to the same market pressures at the same time.

“When you pair them, they complement each other perfectly to balance your portfolio: when traditional markets dip, digital gold acts as your cushion, and when technology and digital adoption skyrocket, Bitcoin acts as your accelerator,” said Yburan.

Moving From Gold to Crypto In One App

Users can manage both digital gold and Bitcoin directly from their phones using GCrypto on GCash.

Acquiring digital gold has been made accessible through GCrypto. Entry begins at just ₱500, allowing one to grow holdings at their own pace through small, consistent contributions. GOLD in GCrypto is also fully insured, certified, and backed 1:1 by physical gold stored in high-security vaults in Switzerland, with full visibility to monitor, buy, or sell 24/7.

“Transitioning from a stable asset like gold into the broader world of cryptocurrency follows that same user-friendly path," says Yburan said. "Growing investors can gain direct exposure to Bitcoin—historically one of the fastest-growing modern asset classes—without the hassle of managing multiple external applications. We are removing traditional barriers and enabling more Filipinos to take part in building long-term financial resilience, right within a platform they already trust.”

For those who are feeling a little overwhelmed by the crypto world, GCrypto offers access to A Beginner’s Guide to Crypto, right inside the app, to help understand Bitcoin and other major tokens. The tokens available on GCrypto are also curated for market strength and credibility, helping avoid scams and ‘rug pulls,’ or instances where new coin creators abandon a project and take raised investor funds.

Like GOLD in GCrypto, there’s no need to shell out a massive lump sum to start. GCash users can start exploring Bitcoin and supplement their digital gold investments for as low as ₱500.

Upgrading your financial strategy doesn’t mean abandoning classic financial moves. It’s about expanding your investment choices—giving you both financial peace of mind and the upside of watching your wealth grow.

Ready to explore? Simply open the GCash app, go to the Invest tab, then choose GCrypto to begin building your cryptocurrency investment through Bitcoin. Download the GCash App on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei App Gallery. Kaya mo, i-GCash mo!

Connecting Globally, Serving the Filipino Way: Eastern Communications at BATIC 2026

Eastern Communications brought its warmth and dedication to world-class Filipino service to the global stage as it participated in the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) from August 25 to 28, 2026, at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) at The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia. The pioneering Philippine telecommunications company joined alongside global telecom leaders, digital innovators, and enterprises as they came together to explore the future of digital connectivity and the technologies shaping an increasingly connected world.

For Eastern, connectivity has always been about more than technology. It is about honing a Filipino spirit of service that creates meaningful relationships for organizations around the world.

At the heart of its nearly 150-year legacy is a distinctly Filipino approach to service, one that is built on genuine hospitality, malasakit (care), and an unwavering commitment to go the extra mile for every customer and partner.

Taking the Filipino Heart of Service Beyond Borders

Eastern’s participation in BATIC 2026 marked an opportunity to represent not only the company's connectivity expertise, but also the values that continue to define its approach to business.

As the Philippines strengthens its role in the global digital economy, Eastern brings a distinctly Filipino way of connecting to the world. Beyond reliable technology and digital infrastructure, Eastern believes that meaningful connectivity begins with understanding the people it serves. Its Heart of Service reflects a commitment to not simply connect businesses, but to build relationships that help them thrive. At BATIC 2026, Eastern proudly carries this Filipino spirit of service into the international spotlight.

“Technology may connect the world, but it is people who make those connections meaningful,” said Atty. Aileen Regio, Co-Coordinator of Eastern Communications. “At Eastern, we take pride in bringing together trusted connectivity expertise with the warmth and dedication that Filipinos are known for. We are [also] proud to represent the Philippines and showcase how the Filipino heart of service can create exceptional experiences for businesses and partners.”

This philosophy has long shaped Eastern Communications’ relationship with its customers. Beyond providing connectivity solutions, the company prioritizes understanding the unique needs of the organizations it serves, building lasting partnerships, and ensuring customers receive the same care and dedication synonymous with Filipino hospitality.

Where Technology Meets the Human Touch

At BATIC 2026, Eastern showcased its enterprise capabilities and explored opportunities for collaboration with organizations and industry leaders from across the region.

The company’s participation also reflected its continued commitment to evolving alongside the changing needs of organizations. As enterprises navigate an increasingly digital landscape, Eastern continues to strengthen its portfolio of connectivity and digital solutions while remaining grounded in a simple belief: the best service begins with genuinely caring for the people behind every connection.

“At BATIC, we hope to bring together the best of both worlds. The strength of our technological expertise and the warmth of human-centered service. Just like our “High Tech, High Touch” philosophy, we believe that this balance is what makes connectivity truly meaningful, and it is also the distinctly Filipino perspective we are proud to bring to the global conversation,” said Mr. Jaeson Evangelista, Co-Coordinator of Eastern Communications.

Connecting Filipinos, businesses, and communities, Eastern steps onto an international platform alongside industry-leading players and innovators, carrying the same values that have guided its journey through generations. Because while technology may continue to evolve, the Filipino way of caring, serving, and connecting remains timeless.

CashKO Scales Calamity Microinsurance Nationwide to Widen Protection for Filipino Families vs. Typhoon, Flooding Risks

Manila, Philippines CashKO, the microinsurance subsidiary of Philippine InsurTech firm RuralNet, is scaling its calamity microinsurance program nationwide to provide an immediate financial safety net for underserved Filipino households. This comes as heavy monsoon rains and destructive typhoons continue to inundate communities across the country.

The service expansion comes as the need for faster disaster protection has become increasingly urgent. National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) data revealed that about 7.5 million people were affected by the combined effects of tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” alone, leaving them vulnerable to risks of income and livelihood disruptions. Subsequently, these natural disasters also increase risks for Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), which may face payment challenges and greater exposure across their lending portfolios.

During his speech at the 2026 Microfinance Council of the Philippines Inc. (MCPI) annual conference, Justin Arcenas, President and CEO of CashKO Insurance Brokerage, emphasized that demand for financial protection is evident in 2024 survey data showing 87% of MFI borrowers expressing interest in calamity protection and identifying typhoons as their primary concern.

Addressing these vulnerabilities, CashKO is expanding its calamity protection plans through RuralNet’s digital, API-driven platform. By integrating directly into partner financial systems, CashKO delivers a "made-to-measure" microinsurance model that tailors coverage parameters, payout thresholds, and loan integration to fit the specific needs and risk profiles of each partner organization’s members. This model facilitates rapid emergency liquidity when disasters hit, building on the success of an initial pilot that delivered critical relief payouts to victims of Typhoons Tino and Uwan.

To balance thorough loss verification with immediate emergency needs, CashKO’s scaled program combines traditional indemnity insurance with an upcoming parametric insurance model. The indemnity insurance, which is currently available, provides payouts based on verified damage to a policyholder's home, supported by photos and required documentation. This provides a familiar claims-based approach, but large-scale disasters can make individual damage assessment and documentation more challenging as claim volumes increase.

Meanwhile, CashKO will launch its parametric insurance program in Q4, which will introduce a faster way of responding to certain disaster events. Rather than assessing individual losses before a payout can be triggered, parametric coverage uses predefined disaster conditions, such as typhoon category or earthquake magnitude. Supported by satellite and ground-station data, payouts can be activated once the agreed thresholds are reached, reducing the need for lengthy individual claims assessments.

“For vulnerable communities, the value of insurance is measured by how quickly and effectively it can help them recover when disaster strikes. By combining indemnity and parametric protection, we can offer borrowers and financial institutions solutions that are better suited to their different needs, while making critical assistance faster and more accessible. Our goal is to ensure that a calamity does not become a setback that pushes families further into financial hardship,” Arcenas added.

The impact of immediate liquidity is reflected in initial claims experiences. Joy Verano, a teacher from Masbate City, shared how the microinsurance product helped her recover and rebuild following the impact of Typhoon Opong in 2025.

"Iyong perang ibinigay sa amin, nabili agad namin ang priority at pangangailangan ng pamilya ko. Kung wala akong natanggap, wala akong maaasahang tulong na kung ano pa man," she said. (“The money we received helped us immediately buy the priorities and needs of my family. If it weren’t for the assistance, I wouldn’t have had any help to rely on.”)

Under these programs, eligible assistance can typically provide around PHP 5,000 in emergency support, giving affected borrowers access to critical liquidity that can help address urgent expenses following a calamity.

Since 2019, CashKO’s microinsurance network has reached over 6 million underserved Filipinos. With over 33,000 total claims approved, including more than 16,000 processed in 2025 alone, CashKO presents a proven, scalable model for impact investors and growth-focused financial partners.

Taiwan Expo Returns to Manila After Generating $53.4 Million in Business Opportunities in 2025

MANILA, Philippines — Building on a 2025 edition that generated 53.4 million dollars in business opportunities and drew over 10,000 buyers, Taiwan Expo returns to the SMX Convention Center Manila from 17 to 19 September with more than 125 Taiwanese exhibitors across technology, sustainability, agriculture, healthcare, and lifestyle.

These Taiwanese enterprises will exhibit under a “National Team” banner, organized by the Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

“Fifty-three million dollars in business opportunities showed us how much appetite there is in this market,” said James C. F. Huang, Chairman of TAITRA. “This year we want to build on that through joint ventures, licensing, and local assembly, so Taiwanese and Philippine companies are building together rather than simply trading. Our measure of success is how many of these connections are still producing value for both sides five years from now.”

The expo sits within a trade relationship that has been expanding steadily. Taiwan and the Philippines traded 6.71 billion dollars in goods in 2024, and bilateral trade rose 8.5 percent in the first seven months of 2025, lifting Taiwan from the Philippines’ eleventh-largest trading partner to its tenth.

Anchoring this year’s program is the Green & Innovation Showcase, which arrives at a moment when Philippine grid reliability and power costs remain live commercial concerns. Taiwanese exhibitors will present battery energy storage systems and hydrogen microgrids designed for island and off-grid deployment, technologies with direct application to the electrification of communities outside the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids. Alongside them are certified green building insulation aimed at cutting cooling loads in Philippine commercial developments, AI-powered waste sorting systems for local government units facing rising landfill pressure, and fully biodegradable plant-based drinking straws produced at commercial scale.

The same practical logic runs through the Agritech & Food Pavilion, which addresses yield and labor constraints in Philippine agriculture. Autonomous Mobile Robots reduce dependence on manual field labor, while smart livestock environmental control systems target mortality losses in poultry and swine operations, a recurring cost pressure for Philippine producers. Taiwanese exporters will also present premium Phalaenopsis orchids, high-mountain teas, and specialty foods seeking Philippine distribution partners.

Where agritech tackles productivity on the ground, the Intelligent Technology Pavilion covers the digital layer above it, spanning the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), edge computing, and cybersecurity. Exhibits include collaborative robots for manufacturing lines, forklift safety systems for warehouse and logistics operators, and zero-trust cybersecurity frameworks aimed at Philippine enterprises operating under the Data Privacy Act and rising ransomware exposure.

Healthcare and consumer biotechnology follow in the Beauty & Wellness Pavilion, which combines biotech skincare with medical supplies. Exhibitors will present functional bio-electro devices, anti-counterfeiting technology for pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging, and complete lines of sterile surgical supplies and medical dressings for hospital procurement.

Rounding out the floor, the Premium Lifestyle Pavilion features rPET recycled fabric bags, electric vehicle safety blankets, micrometer towels, memory storage devices, smart wine aerators, and precision bathroom components, most seeking Philippine distributor and retail partners.

LG Electronics to Showcase Next-Generation AI TVs at IFA 2026

LG Electronics is set to unveil its 2026 AI TV lineup at IFA 2026, highlighting the company’s continued push to make television viewing smarter, more personalized, and more secure. At the heart of the new lineup is the award-winning α11 AI Processor Gen3, which is designed to enhance the viewing experience while enabling more intuitive, user-focused features.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into everyday technology, LG is placing personalization at the center of its latest TVs. The 2026 lineup is expected to provide viewers with more relevant content recommendations based on their individual preferences and viewing habits. Instead of simply presenting users with a large selection of content, LG’s AI-powered features aim to make discovering what to watch more intuitive and convenient.

The α11 AI Processor Gen3 plays a key role in delivering this experience. Building on LG’s AI processing capabilities, the processor is designed to intelligently optimize various aspects of the viewing experience. This reflects a broader shift in the television industry, where advanced processing and AI are becoming essential components of modern smart TVs.

Beyond entertainment and personalization, LG is also placing a strong emphasis on security and privacy with its LG Shield technology. Recognized as a CES 2026 Innovation Awards honoree in the Cybersecurity category, LG Shield is designed to protect both LG AI TVs and user data.

LG Shield incorporates seven core security technologies, creating multiple layers of protection designed to help safeguard connected television environments. As smart TVs become more deeply integrated into users’ digital lives, protecting personal information and connected devices has become increasingly important.

The introduction of LG’s 2026 AI TV lineup demonstrates how artificial intelligence is transforming the traditional television into a more intelligent and personalized entertainment platform. From content discovery to processing and cybersecurity, LG is positioning AI as a fundamental part of the modern viewing experience.

With its latest lineup, LG Electronics aims to combine advanced AI capabilities with user convenience and stronger security. Its appearance at IFA 2026 will offer consumers and technology enthusiasts a closer look at how AI can shape the next generation of home entertainment.

As televisions continue to evolve beyond simply displaying content, LG’s latest innovations suggest that the future of TV will be increasingly personalized, intelligent, and secure.

LG Brings Advanced Energy-Saving Technology to More Home Appliances at IFA 2026

At IFA 2026, LG Electronics is highlighting its commitment to making energy efficiency more accessible by expanding advanced energy-saving technologies across a broader range of home appliances. Traditionally associated with premium and flagship products, these technologies are now being introduced across LG’s expanded laundry, refrigerator and dishwasher lineups.

The move reflects a growing consumer demand for appliances that can deliver strong performance while using less energy. As household energy costs and environmental concerns continue to influence purchasing decisions, efficiency has become an increasingly important consideration when choosing major home appliances.

LG’s latest lineup demonstrates this focus through high-efficiency performance designed to meet stringent European energy standards. Several models across its laundry, refrigeration and dishwasher categories achieve top-tier European energy-efficiency ratings, with some even exceeding applicable A-grade requirements.

In the laundry category, improved efficiency can help households reduce the energy required for everyday washing and drying without sacrificing cleaning or fabric-care performance. Meanwhile, energy-efficient refrigerators are designed to maintain reliable food preservation while minimizing electricity consumption—an especially important consideration for appliances that operate continuously.

Dishwashers are also benefiting from the same approach. By combining efficient operation with advanced appliance technologies, LG is working to reduce resource consumption while maintaining the convenience and cleaning performance consumers expect.

The broader significance of LG’s approach lies in accessibility. Energy-saving innovation is no longer being positioned solely as a premium feature reserved for select flagship appliances. By extending these technologies across more product categories, LG aims to allow more consumers to make energy-conscious choices when upgrading their homes.

This strategy also reflects the changing role of smart home technology. Modern appliances are increasingly expected to balance performance, convenience, connectivity and sustainability. LG’s expanding focus on efficiency shows how these priorities can work together, rather than forcing consumers to choose between performance and lower energy consumption.

As the home appliance industry continues to evolve, energy efficiency is likely to remain a key area of innovation. LG’s presence at IFA 2026 illustrates how manufacturers are responding by developing technologies that can deliver meaningful efficiency improvements across everyday household products.

For consumers, the message is straightforward: saving energy does not necessarily mean compromising performance. With advanced efficiency technologies becoming available across more appliance categories, a more energy-conscious home is becoming increasingly achievable.

As Local Businesses Grow, Digital Tools Help Stay Flexible Amid Changing Customer Behavior

MANILA, Philippines – For many small and medium-sized businesses today, growth no longer follows a single path. Some expand through new branches, while others build their customer base by moving between pop-ups and bazaars. As they grow, they’re also finding ways to ensure they meet the evolving habits and preferences of consumers – including the way they pay.

Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in 2025 showed that QR Ph person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions grew by 246.9% in volume, reaching 183.3M transactions from 52.8M only in 2024. Transaction value also grew by 211.3%, reaching ₱926.1 billion from ₱297.5 billion the previous year.

As digital payments become increasingly embedded in everyday transactions, SMEs are quickly discovering that growth also means needing to adapt their operations to keep pace with how customers want to transact and ensuring payments don’t become a barrier to their growth.

Chef Christine Balucas-Tabu of smash burger restaurant Bun Run, and Gabriel Jocson IV and Stephanie Dianne Ang, founders of matcha shop Kyoto House, know this firsthand. Though they’ve taken different paths to growth, both have had to adapt how they operate to meet customers while keeping the experience they’ve built consistent.

Growth without losing what works

For Chef Christine Balucas-Tabu, who serves as Culinary Operations Director at Bun Run, expanding a restaurant business while preserving the overall experience that made customers fall in love with it in the first place requires a careful balance. This is something she knew well when the brand decided to open its second shop in Makati in October 2025, making sure that what customers loved about the original San Juan branch could also be found in Makati, while they adapted to a different crowd and their preferences.

“Ultimately, we want our customers coming back for more, not just because the food tastes good but because the experience was even greater,” she explains. Part of that experience is making sure the payment process is as seamless as possible – for both staff and customers. “GCash for Business has been a great part of the growth of our business to make all transactions smooth and sound,” she adds.

Bun Run uses GCash SoundPay Plus, a device that accepts QRPH and card payments with real-time voice confirmation, helping staff verify payments faster and safely. With over 80% of their transactions cashless – around 30% through QRPH and 50% via debit and credit cards according to Chef Christine – having a single device that supports multiple payment methods has helped keep transactions fast and seamless, especially during peak hours.

Growing by meeting customers where they are

Flexibility takes on a different look for Kyoto House. Rather than operating from a permanent store, the business reaches customers through online channels, bazaars, and pop-ups. For its owners, this approach allows them to reach more of its target customers: home brewers who want to enjoy a delicious cup of matcha in the comfort of their own homes, but may not know where to start.

Today, 40% of the sales of Kyoto House come from pop-ups and bazaars. Its flexible model has been a key growth driver, and according to its owners, being present in multiple locations allows them to introduce their products and teach their customers how they can correctly prepare matcha at home. But because they’re constantly on the move, they also need the flexibility to make payments work wherever they go.

“What should not change is the experience customers receive. Wherever we are, we want the service to feel warm, the product information to remain accurate, and the payment process to be simple and reliable,” Gabriel and Stephanie emphasize.

On a typical weekend bazaar, the team typically handles 300-450 transactions per day, with 100% of their payments being cashless, making it essential to have a payment solution that can keep up with the pace. For that, they can count on the flexibility that GCash Soundpay Plus gives them.

“For us, ease does not mean removing every challenge. It means building systems that allow us to spend less time on preventable problems and more time improving the products and serving our customers,” shares Gabriel and Stephanie.

Flexibility is the new way to grow for SMEs

The growth of Bun Run and Kyoto House may look different, but their journeys point to the same need: having the flexibility to adapt and scale. With tools like GCash SoundPay Plus, merchants can streamline payments, serve more customers with ease, and unlock more opportunities for revenue growth.

Businesses can get started by creating a Starter Plan account on the GCash for Business Portal with as simple as a GCash verified account to enjoy a P5M wallet limit, then start ordering a GCash SoundPay Plus device.

AI-Powered Legal Research: Navigating Philippine Foreclosure Law with Confidence

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Legal disputes involving foreclosed properties can become complicated when a purchaser seeks possession but discovers that another person is already occupying the property and claims an independent right to it. Under Philippine law, determining who has the stronger claim requires more than simply reading a single statute. It requires careful examination of legislation, procedural rules, and decades of Supreme Court jurisprudence.

The general rule is that after the redemption period expires and ownership is consolidated, a foreclosure purchaser is ordinarily entitled to a writ of possession. However, the situation can change when a third party in actual possession claims a right that is independent of the debtor-mortgagor.

This legal distinction was the focus of a research test conducted using Intellegal, a Philippine-focused legal research platform. The system examined the requirements for obtaining a writ of possession following an extrajudicial foreclosure under Act No. 3135 and analyzed when a third party may resist the purchaser's request. Its research brought together statutes, procedural authorities, court issuances, and 110 Supreme Court decisions issued between 1941 and 2023.

One of the key findings concerns timing. During the redemption period, Section 7 of Act No. 3135 generally requires a verified ex parte application, proper court proceedings, and a bond equivalent to 12 months' use of the property. Once the redemption period has expired without redemption and ownership has been consolidated, the purchaser's position becomes stronger. Upon proper proof of title and the other requirements, the issuance of a writ of possession is generally considered a ministerial duty, and a bond is ordinarily unnecessary.

The critical exception involves third-party occupants. A person whose claim is merely derived from the mortgagor generally cannot defeat the summary possession process by simply challenging the foreclosure. However, a genuine third party asserting an independent right adverse to the mortgagor may require the court to examine evidence, potentially forcing the purchaser to pursue an ordinary action for possession.

Intellegal's approach emphasizes the importance of traceable legal research. Its Visual Digest helps lawyers understand lengthy decisions through structured timelines and arguments. Citation Map connects cases, statutes, and doctrines so authorities can be traced directly. Deep Synthesis breaks complex legal questions into focused research issues and produces source-linked reports.

For Philippine lawyers, the value of legal AI is therefore not simply generating fluent answers. It is building a research trail that can be checked, challenged, and verified against the underlying authorities.

As legal research becomes increasingly technology-driven, platforms such as Intellegal demonstrate how AI can help lawyers move from a difficult legal question to the authorities that deserve closer attention—while leaving professional judgment where it belongs: with counsel.

PLDT to Block Over 100 Sites Streaming School Shootings, Extreme Violence

PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. announced today that they will block more than one hundred websites found to be streaming or hosting footage of school shootings and other acts of extreme violence.

The move is part of the PLDT Group's broader commitment to keeping its networks safe, particularly for children and young people who are increasingly exposed to harmful content online.

"This is something we do not tolerate," said PLDT Chief Operating Officer Butch Jimenez. "We have decided to ban these kinds of sites preemptively, as soon as they are discovered. Our networks will not be used as a channel for content that glorifies violence and puts our communities, especially our children, at risk."

The company said the list of blocked sites will continue to grow as new ones are identified through its own monitoring efforts and in coordination with government agencies, child protection organizations, and parenting communities. Blocking is carried out at the network level, meaning the sites become inaccessible to all PLDT and Smart subscribers.

"There is no debate to be had here," Jimenez added. "Content that turns real-world violence into entertainment has no place on our networks and in our society, and we will keep acting decisively every time we find it."

The initiative builds on the PLDT Group's ongoing child protection and online safety programs, which include the blocking of sites hosting child sexual abuse material.

Adaptability Is the New Leadership Imperative – PLDT

In a business environment marked by rapid technological advancement, evolving customer expectations, and heightened competitive pressures, adaptability has become a defining trait of effective leadership. This was among the key themes explored during the panel discussion, "Decisions Under Pressure: How Leaders are Navigating 2026," held at the ACC CXO Forum in Hong Kong.

The inaugural ACC CXO Forum brought together decision-makers from the global telecommunications, technology, digital infrastructure, finance, and enterprise sectors to exchange leadership insights and discuss the trends shaping the future of business.

PLDT Senior Vice President and Enterprise Business Group Head Blums S. Pineda joined fellow industry leaders in examining how organizations can remain resilient and competitive amid increasingly complex market conditions.

For Pineda, adaptability has become just as critical as scale or market leadership.

"It's not as simple anymore to rest on your laurels as a B2B or enterprise company and build up to a certain size because you're not sure that what got you there is going to keep you at the top. And that holds true for B2C companies as well."

The discussion also highlighted the growing challenge of strategic planning in an increasingly unpredictable environment. Pineda also noted that leaders today must be more adaptive as customer expectations, technology, and competitive conditions continue to evolve.

Drawing from his experience in global organizations, Pineda also highlighted the value of learning from diverse leadership styles and management approaches.

"I've always had the benefit of paying attention to my leaders above and trying to pick up little things. I think leadership is a story of evolving your craft and evolving yourself and really reflecting on what you can add and what you can steal with pride from others, because if it works in that situation, and if you have that in your toolkit, then you have a much more diverse way to begin to tackle problems that you will find."

As businesses navigate a rapidly changing operating environment, the discussions at the ACC CXO Forum reinforced a common view among today's leaders: success is no longer guaranteed by size, history, or market position alone. Organizations must continuously evolve, adapt, and create value in response to changing market realities.

As Pineda concluded, "It's a harder time to be in business. It's a harder time to be a leader. You can no longer think that you're entitled to something. You have to earn it every day, unfortunately, and I think that's a new normal."

Tax Reforms, POGO Bans Among Key Drivers in PH iGaming Surge as Digital Platforms Overtake Traditional Casinos

Manila, Philippines — Strategic tax adjustments, strict regulatory oversight, and a nationwide shift toward digital platforms have propelled the Philippine gaming industry to generate a record ₱396 billion in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) in 2025.

Latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and industry benchmarks reveal the electronic and online gaming segment spearheaded total industry growth for the first time, surging to ₱201.12 billion and accounting for half of the total revenue and officially overtaking traditional land-based casino floors.

According to regulated digital platform Buenas PH, the industry milestone confirms a broader macroeconomic trend driven by key decisive policy and market shifts.

First, the decision by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to lower the GGR tax rate from 55% to 35% in 2024, followed by subsequent reductions to 30% for e-games, aligned local standards with global benchmarks, successfully drawing capital into regulated domestic channels.

Additionally, the nationwide total ban on offshore-facing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) removed significant market distortion, effectively redirecting investment into compliant, domestic digital operators. Furthermore, labor dynamics across the sector have undergone a structural realignment, shifting employment away from traditional floor-based hospitality toward high-skill digital operations, software management, and remote platform architecture.

“The industry’s growth signals a mature, structural evolution,” says Ellen Joy Almanza, Managing Consultant at Buenas PH. “It proves that a compliance-first, highly regulated digital gaming landscape creates sustainable, high-value tech and corporate career paths, moving the sector far beyond legacy assumptions of an informal or localized labor market.”

The economic footprint extends directly into the job market. Latest PSA survey data indicated that gambling and betting platforms have the highest wage premium within the broader Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation sector. Employing over 38,000 individuals, the segment recorded an average annual compensation of ₱688,750 per employee, significantly outpacing traditional creative, arts, and entertainment roles.

This structural transition directly supports broader national development goals outlined by regulatory authorities. In a statement on the sector’s digital transition, PAGCOR highlighted the demand for higher-skilled jobs in areas such as IT, cybersecurity, compliance, data analytics, finance, and customer support as the industry evolves, and its commitment to "build a sustainable gaming environment that generates quality jobs, attracts investments, contributes to nation-building, and operates responsibly.”

To sustain the momentum, Buenas PH emphasizes that the next phase of market maturity will require operators to transition from general digital operations toward specialized, front-line technical capabilities. As PAGCOR moves toward operating purely as a regulatory body, licensed domestic operators must absorb primary responsibility for real-time risk management and user protection.

“The next five years will be defined by scaling sophisticated, specialized capability,” adds Almanza. “Moving forward, operators must direct workforce investments into three critical pillars: embedding volume-scale Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance into operational roles, scaling predictive AI and data science to detect problematic gaming behaviors before they occur, and recruiting platform architects who can support novel digital formats like esports.”

Furthermore, navigating the rapid digital transition will require operators to fortify mid-level management and supervisory structures to ensure compliance stability during periods of high growth.

Aligning with PAGCOR’s mandatory player protection frameworks and self-exclusion mandates, digital platforms like Buenas PH continue to invest in local tech talent development and advanced compliance infrastructure, ensuring a secure, highly regulated, and sustainable digital ecosystem for Filipino consumers.

What Does the Future of Food Taste Like? Filipinos Get a Taste at Future Menus 2026 Food Trends Adventure

MANILA, Philippines – What does the future of food taste like? That’s what hundreds of guests got to explore for themselves at the Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) Future Menus 2026 Food Trends Adventure last weekend. Held in partnership with GCash for Business, Future Menus transformed the Foro de Intramuros into the home base of a one-of-a-kind food crawl.

The event showcased the culinary ideas shaping how people eat today, and how they may be eating tomorrow. With GCash for Business helping make payments simple and convenient, guests could move seamlessly through the experience and focus on discovering the flavors and trends shaping the future of food.

From Trend Report to Tasting Menu

Future Menus is Unilever Food Solutions’ annual global food trends platform, developed based on extensive research and insights from chefs around the world. This year’s report spotlighted four key trends shaping the future of dining: the resurgence of heritage cuisine, the elevation of street food through more refined techniques, the growing influence of borderless cuisine, and the emergence of more personalized dining experiences.

“Every year, Future Menus brings together insights from chefs, industry experts, consumer behavior, and global food trends to identify the movements that will shape the future of dining. [...] what makes Future Menus truly valuable is [...] translating those insights into practical, profitable solutions that chefs and operators can bring to life in their kitchens immediately,”
says Kat Huang, Country Marketing Head of Unilever Food Solutions.

Throughout the food crawl, guests discovered how these trends translated from concept to plate through dishes from 15 merchants, namely: Backyard BBQ, Bigby’s, Bun Run, Caerus, Chotto Matcha, Fiasfud, H Proper, Itamessy, Mezmars & Mau’s, OnlyPans, Poppy’s Halo Halo, Rebel Bakehouse, Sama Sama, Shawarma Ko, and Soriano’s.

Several dishes from the event that offered a glimpse of these trends included Sama Sama’s Filipino beef pares inside a tender bao – their interpretation of the Borderless Cuisine trend, where chefs borrow techniques and formats from around the world while staying true to the flavors of the dish itself.

Meanwhile, Soriano’s shone a light on a classic Filipino dish with its Beef Morcon, bringing back a traditional fiesta dish hardly found on menus today. It’s the kind of dish that captures the spirit of another trend, Culinary Roots, that celebrates ancestral recipes by making traditional Filipino flavors feel exciting and relevant for a new generation of diners.

For dessert, Poppy’s Halo Halo elevated two well-loved Filipino merienda classics – Halo Halo and Mais Con Yelo – without taking away their nostalgic charm but elevating them through craftsmanship, quality ingredients, and thoughtful presentation.

Together with the rest of the menus presented at the event, these dishes proved that the future of Filipino cuisine isn’t defined by a single look or style, but by the ways chefs and businesses continue to experiment with formats, reinterpret familiar flavours, and respond to consumer tastes.

Powering the Digital Future of Dining

Presented in partnership with GCash for Business, the event also marked the first-ever cashless Future Menus, offering a real-world look at how the dining experience is changing alongside the country’s shift toward digital payments. GCash for Business was selected as the event’s exclusive payment partner, powering the end-to-end payment experience from ticketing through transactions at participating merchant booths.

According to Kate Cruz, B2B Marketing Head of GCash, 60% of food and beverage transactions in the Philippines are already digital. One in five diners pay directly using an e-wallet like GCash, adding, “The shift in consumer behavior is already happening. The opportunity now is to make sure businesses are equipped to keep up.”

For GCash, that means looking beyond the consumer side of digital payments. Every digital buyer, after all, needs a digital seller – and with MSMEs accounting for 90% of businesses in the Philippines, more than 56% of these merchants remain digitally underserved.

“Merchants don’t fear technology; they fear friction,” Cruz said. “Empowering consumers was only half the equation, and now that paying with GCash has become part of Filipinos’ everyday routines, we saw that we needed to shift our attention to bridging the gap for the businesses they’re paying, too.”

At the Food Trends Adventure, GCash for Business had a dedicated booth where restaurants and food business owners could register and apply for their own SoundPay Plus device, a payment solution that accepts multiple payment methods and provides instant audio confirmation for successful transactions.

Across the food crawl experience, GCash for Business also launched a Scan-to-Order feature allowing guests to order and pay directly from where they were instead of waiting in line, further showing how digital tools are streamlining the dining journey and easing the experience for everyone.

As food businesses continue to evolve in response to changing tastes, formats, and consumer expectations, the digital infrastructure supporting them is evolving as well. Through GCash for Business, the Future Menus Food Trends Adventure showed that dining is not only about what ends up on a plate, but also how businesses and consumers connect around it.

The Future Menus 4 report is now available to download for free through the UFS website. To learn how food businesses can streamline operations, simplify payments, and focus on delivering exceptional dining experiences with GCash, visit GCash for Business.
