Don’t Get Duped: Smart Warns Against Fake Links in Scam Texts

Smart warns customers against tapping and opening links embedded in text messages, even if these appear to come from the telco. The mobile services provider stressed that it only uses the full address of its official domain – https://smart.com.ph – in text blasts.

For SIM registration, Smart sends the official link https://smart.com.ph/SimReg only to unregistered numbers. Customers are reminded that registered SIMs don’t need to register again.

“Smart has stopped using shortened links for its official domain or SIM registration site,” said Atty. Roy Ibay, VP and Head of Regulatory Affairs at Smart. “Only smart.com.ph is legitimate, and any other version is fraudulent and designed to trick customers into giving away personal information.”

Smart has intensified efforts against text scams. It has blacklisted more than 369,000 mobile numbers involved in phishing activities from January to July 2025. It has also prevented more than 1.7 billion scam texts from reaching customers in the same seven-month period.

“We urge everyone to be extra vigilant, avoid opening suspicious links, and immediately report these attempts through our official channels so we can act against scammers,” urged Atty. Ibay.

Customers may report suspicious messages to Smart’s HuliSCAM portal at https://smart.com.ph/huliscam. They may also call the hotline of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) at 1326. Customers may also file a complaint with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) at www.ntc.gov.ph or report scams through its consumer hotline at 1682.

Other than the HuliScam portal, customers may also report cyber threats to Smart’s verified and official social media pages – Smart Communications on Facebook and @SmartCares on X — or call hotline *888.

The gaming complex pledged to make 30% of all menu offerings plant-based across its food service operations by early next year.

Enchanted Kingdom Brings Magic, Education, Games and Arts at Eldar’s Mega Birthday Bash

Enchanted Kingdom, the first and only world-class theme park in the Philippines, marks 30 years of magic through the fun-filled birthday celebration of its most iconic character, Eldar the Wizard last August 2.

Eldar’s Mega Birthday Bash was held at the Spaceport Grounds on Saturday, serving as the grand culmination of the month-long festivities that celebrated EK’s beloved homegrown character — who has brought enchantment, values, and fun to Filipinos since the Park opened its gates in 1995.

Every weekend last July, guests enjoyed exciting activities around the Park, like the search for the missing birthday invitations and hats, all in preparation for Eldar’s big day. Virlanie Foundation Reaffirms Its Mission to Uplift Vulnerable Filipino Children on Its 33rd Anniversary

Manila, Philippines — With over 22,000 young lives touched, the Virlanie Foundation, Inc., a non-profit and non-sectarian organization, marked its 33rd anniversary with a celebration that honored its legacy of service and reaffirmed its mission to support vulnerable children in the Philippines.

The event also coincided with the 75th birthday of its founder, French social worker Dominique Lemay, more fondly known as Kuya Dominique, who established the foundation in 1992 to provide care, protection, and opportunities to children living on the streets of Metro Manila.

“For 33 years, we’ve seen how love, compassion, and consistent support can change lives,” Lemay said. “Do small things. Do something for the children of Virlanie. I cannot do it alone, but together, we can change lives.”

Since its founding, Virlanie has helped disadvantaged children through a range of programs focused on child protection, education, family reunification, and community empowerment. Today, the foundation continues to focus on sustainable solutions that aim to prevent the cycle of intergenerational poverty among marginalized families.

The anniversary celebration included a Service Awarding Ceremony honoring long-serving staff members for their years of dedication to the foundation’s mission. Among those recognized was Ferdinand Cellona, Street Education Lead of Virlanie’s Street Program, who has been with the foundation for two decades.

“Every child on the street has a story and a dream. For 20 years, I’ve walked beside them to remind them they are not forgotten. With Virlanie, we make sure no child is left behind,” said Cellona. “As street educators, our role is to be trusted kuyas and ates they can turn to. We listen, support them in finding solutions, help guide their decisions, and refer those who choose to leave street life to shelters and care facilities.”

One of Virlanie’s newest supporters, Jakob Walland, who has sponsored the education and development of 42 children, shared his perspective on the foundation’s work.

“If a child gains an education or a skill, they can help themselves and their families. That is what Virlanie makes possible. Giving is easy for donors like me, but the real gift is the time, heart, and everyday effort that the foundation gives,” Walland said.

The event included musical performances by Virlanie Voices, the foundation’s children’s choir, and renowned Filipino singer-songwriter Jose Mari Chan.

Virlanie’s programs continue to serve children in residential care, children with special needs, and youth undergoing reintegration. The foundation also works closely with communities to help families become self-reliant and prevent child abandonment or neglect.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize the work ahead,” Lemay said. “Our mission continues as thousands of children still face daily challenges without access to basic care and a safe home.”

Coca-Cola Philippines Expands ‘Tapon to Ipon’ Recycling Initiative Nationwide

In a move that reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability, Coca-Cola Philippines has expanded its flagship PET bottle collection initiative, Tapon to Ipon, into a unified and more accessible nationwide program. This initiative aims to strengthen local recycling infrastructure and significantly boost PET bottle recovery efforts across communities in the Philippines.

Launched during a community activation event on April 29, 2025, at Terra 28th in Bonifacio Global City, the expanded program consolidates various Coca-Cola collection campaigns—including the Tindahan Extra Mile (TEM) program—into a single, streamlined effort. With over 6,000 collection hubs now operating nationwide, Tapon to Ipon provides more Filipinos with accessible drop-off points to recycle used plastic bottles.

“This expansion represents our continued innovation in addressing plastic waste through community-centered solutions,” said Tony del Rosario, President of Coca-Cola Philippines. The initiative allows consumers to exchange used PET bottles—regardless of brand—for Coca-Cola product rewards at sari-sari stores, special event booths, and other designated hubs.

First introduced in 2021 by Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines (CCEAP), the program has partnered with local government units, small businesses, and environmental organizations to encourage recycling at the grassroots level. According to Gareth McGeown, CEO and President of CCEAP, “The goal has always been to strengthen recycling infrastructure and empower Filipinos to take part in sustainability.”

Tapon to Ipon is closely tied to PETValue Philippines, the country’s first bottle-to-bottle food-grade recycling facility based in General Trias, Cavite. This facility transforms used PET bottles into new packaging materials, completing the circular recycling loop.

Further enhancing its impact, the program now includes incentives for sari-sari store and carinderia owners who collect recyclables from their neighborhoods. Through partnerships with Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST) and the Philippine Association of Stores and Carinderia Owners (PASCO), these micro-retailers can earn points through the bXTRA app, which are redeemable for cash or products.

With its reach extending to over 170 cities and municipalities, Tapon to Ipon has gained recognition from prestigious platforms such as the FMCG Asia Awards and the Quill Awards. This highlights Coca-Cola’s growing role in building a cleaner, more sustainable Philippines—one bottle at a time.
