3 Lessons from Women Who Successfully Built Careers in Freelancing

Manila, Philippines – Earning through freelance work has never been more accessible. With a stable internet connection and numerous job platforms, opportunities can come from anywhere – and for many Filipino women, they do. A 2020 study by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) showed that an increasing number of women are engaging in online work because it lets them earn while balancing home responsibilities.
But access doesn’t always mean ease. Freelancers face inconsistent income, unpredictable clients, and little guidance on how to navigate it all. For longtime freelancers Mia Juan and Dana Novales, building a career online has meant learning these lessons in real time. With more women entering the freelancing field, they share three lessons they’ve learned:

1. Build real relationships, not just transactions.

Freelancing can make work feel transactional. You get assigned a task, submit the work, get paid, and then move on. But the most successful freelancers don’t treat work that way. In such an unpredictable field, being remembered matters.

According to Dana, “Real relationships are built on service, not strategy.” Every “Well done!” or “Good work!” can open doors to new opportunities, so don’t waste them. Instead, take an extra step to establish a real relationship with your clients: check in, understand what they need, and find ways to make the process easy for them.

2. Set up systems that work for you.

Handling different clients with different ways of working can get overwhelming fast. For Mia, having systems for your workflow simply makes this easier and helps manage client expectations.

That can be as simple as being clear about what services you offer. “It’s basically saying this is what I can offer and setting a clear boundary of what you do not do. That way, there is no miscommunication of responsibilities, which happens commonly in freelancing work,” she shares. It also helps to have a proper onboarding flow – having contracts, timelines, and payment terms in place before you start, not while you're already in the middle of the work.

3. Find solutions that work for your peace of mind.

Some challenges only appear once you’re in the midst of them, and for many freelancers, realizing that foreign payments come with fees, delays, and uncertainty is when freelancing starts to feel stressful.

“Earning in USD sounds exciting–until fees, forex, and delays eat into your income,” Dana points out. She shares that this is something she wishes she had known earlier in her freelancing career. “That’s why there is importance in having the right structures in place, especially if you’re a mom who has to think of managing your home, paying your bills, among many other responsibilities.”

That’s why Mia and Dana now use the new GCash Virtual US Account, a feature within the GCash app that lets freelancers receive USD payments from US clients more directly without the usual surcharges. After creating an account, you get your own ACH and Wire Routing Number, which you can give to your clients for direct deposits of your pay.

You can also choose to convert your USD to PHP when you want, depending on live forex rates, which you can see on the platform – giving you control over how much you actually receive. Once it’s in your wallet, you can use it to send money, pay bills, or add to your savings.

Creating a GCash Virtual US Account is easy in just a few steps.
  • Open the GCash app.
  • Tap US Accounts in the Explore the App section.
  • Tap Continue and verify your information.
  • Complete your account creation.

3 Ways to Set Yourself Up for Success If You Want To Start Freelancing

MANILA, Philippines – Freelancing opens doors to career flexibility: choosing your clients and projects, setting your own hours, and building your career on your terms. In theory, freelancing sounds simple: work with multiple international clients, do good work, and grow your income.

But it’s rarely that straightforward. Beyond the work itself, there’s a lot you’ll need to figure out, such as finding the right clients, managing workload, and staying on top of your finances in what can be a very unpredictable setup.

This is where many new freelancers get stuck. It’s not just about being good at what you do; it’s knowing how to navigate the business side of it, too. If you’re a freelancer who’s just getting started, here are three practical tips from freelancing experts on how to set yourself up for success.

Build yourself as much as you build your client base

If you spend all your time on client work, it’s difficult to grow your freelance career long-term. At some point, you hit a ceiling, moving from one deadline to the next, with no time to actually build anything beyond your current workload.

But while you might be great at copywriting, design, or accounting, as a freelancer, you’re also responsible for finding leads, keeping up with new technology, staying updated on trends, and regularly updating your portfolio.

As Arnel Legaspi Jr, CPA, shares, “When I started, I thought if I was good at social media marketing, learned enough tools, and delivered well, everything would fall into place. But freelancing tests your boundaries, your self-worth, your discipline, and your money mindset.”

Putting time into improving yourself doesn’t guarantee instant results, but it does make a difference for you. Over time, it helps you price your work higher and expand what you can offer to a broader range of clients.

Build structure into your work and into your days

To build yourself, you need to be intentional about how you manage your workdays. Time management is part of this, but building structure goes beyond simply blocking off your calendar. It’s about creating systems that make your work easier to manage and more efficient.

One way to do this is by creating templates and workflows you can rely on. Ehdina Tindoy, founder of Spark Creative Solutions, says, “Having predefined frameworks for planning, execution, and review significantly reduced decision fatigue and improved turnaround time. In addition, I tracked how I spent my time, from planning and outsourcing to execution and revision. This helped me identify bottlenecks, optimize my process, and continuously improve efficiency.”

When you add structure to your work, you spend more time getting things done and free up time for other activities beyond just chasing deadlines!

Build your money system

The income of a freelancer can be unpredictable. Delays in payments, issues with transfer platforms – without a system in place, it’s easy to find yourself in a panic. As Arnel points out, “Protection is just as important as saving and investing. Income growth is good, but income protection is critical.”

One tool that can help you manage your income is the new GCash Virtual US Account, designed to help freelancers earning in USD avoid losing money to steep exchange rates and platform transfer fees.

Powered by technology company Meridian1, the GCash Virtual US Account provides you with your own ACH and Wire Routing Number that you can share with US employers to facilitate direct transfers. This allows you to receive the full amount of your earnings.

You can then move your USD to your GCash e-wallet and choose exactly when to convert it based on when rates are most favourable to you. With live, updated, and competitive forex rates displayed in the app, you always know how much you’ll get. It’s safe and easy to use!

Once your funds have been withdrawn to your e-wallet, you can do more with your cash throughout the app, such as pay utility bills and other necessities, save, and even invest.

Creating a GCash Virtual US Account is easy in just a few steps.
  • Open the GCash app.
  • Tap US Accounts in the Explore the App section
  • Tap Continue and verify your information
  • Complete your account creation
1 GCash Virtual US Accounts are issued and maintained by Meridian Payments US under a "for the benefit of" arrangement. These are not bank accounts and do not qualify as deposits; hence, they are not covered by any deposit insurance schemes.

TESDA Taps Bossjob’s AI-Powered Platform Through ‘Skills Passport’ App to Accelerate Tech-Voc Employment

Manila, PhilippinesBossjob, the chat-first career platform for professional hiring in Southeast Asia (SEA), has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to bridge the gap between industry-standard skills and actual employment, ensuring a more efficient transition from graduation to the workforce of technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates.

By integrating Bossjob’s AI-powered recruitment engine into the newly launched TESDA Skills Passport Mobile Application, the partnership provides a digital infrastructure designed to modernize the Philippines’ TVET ecosystem.

The partnership was formally announced during the official launch of the TESDA Skills Passport Mobile Application on February 5, 2026, at the Makabagong San Juan Theater in San Juan City. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. graced the event and highlighted the administration's commitment to skills development as a national agenda during his speech.

"Para sa ating TESDA scholars, mayroon kayong sariling digital storage kung saan mapapatunayan ang inyong National Certificate at mga training," said President Marcos Jr.

Beyond job matching, Bossjob utilizes aggregated, anonymized platform data to provide TESDA with Labor Market Information (LMI). This framework offers insights into in-demand roles, geographic hiring patterns, and compensation trends, allowing TESDA to calibrate its training curricula to meet evolving market requirements.

According to TESDA’s current data, the sectors seeing the highest volume of postings for TESDA-certified talent include Social, Community Development, and Other Services; Wholesale, Retail, and Trading; Information and Communications Technology (ICT); Automotive and Land Transportation; Tourism, related to the Hotel and Restaurant industry; Healthcare Services; Creative; and Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery. The sectors indicate a consistent, high-growth demand for skills-based and nationally certified talent across the Philippine economy.

The partnership directly addresses the ‘middle-skills gap,' as identified by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS). While TVET graduates demonstrate earning potential comparable to university undergraduates, research shows that current training systems often struggle to align with the evolving competencies required by priority sectors—such as digital services, renewable energy, and ICT.

By integrating Bossjob’s AI-matching engine into the Skills Passport, the platform bridges this gap, transforming verified TESDA certifications into a real-time, visible asset for employers.

“The integration of Bossjob's AI-powered capabilities into the Skills Passport app provides real-time access to available job opportunities for our graduates. This partnership strengthens job security for TVET graduates and contributes to broader economic development by ensuring industry-ready talent is matched with employers with minimal friction,” said Anthony Garcia, Co-Founder of Bossjob.

To ensure employer trust, the app mandates registration via the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). By directly integrating data from TESDA-accredited training centers, the platform ensures all certifications are verified instantly, mitigating the risk of credential fraud.

Bossjob has been championing the TVET industry since 2024. The platform was a key partner of the TESDA-National Capital Region (TESDA-NCR) under its CollaboraTVET: Forging Partnerships for TVET Excellence program, where it offered specialized training programs tailored to the needs of TESDA graduates, along with exclusive job opportunities and career development resources.

Beyond the app integration, Bossjob continues to be committed to helping TESDA students and graduates through career coaching and job readiness workshops, resume and profile optimization guidance, and participating in career fairs led by partner government sectors.

For more information on Bossjob’s latest initiatives and to explore career opportunities, visit bossjob.ph or download the Bossjob app.

PLDT Spotlights AI Upskilling as Pathway to New Opportunities for Filipinos

Artificial intelligence (AI) is often framed as a looming disruptor of jobs. At the Philippine Telco Summit 2026, however, PLDT Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer Menardo “Butch” Jimenez Jr. offered a different view: AI, he said, is less a threat than a call to adapt—and a powerful tool for expanding opportunities for Filipinos who are willing to learn new skills.

Speaking on a panel at the summit organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Jimenez underscored the need for workers, businesses, and institutions to pivot toward AI as it becomes embedded in everyday life and work.

“AI is going to happen, whether we like it or not,” Jimenez said. “The real question is how we respond. If we embrace it and learn how to use it, AI can help protect or diversify your job, open new opportunities, and make people more productive.”

Jimenez emphasized that while large-scale industrial AI systems can be costly, many practical AI tools are already accessible and affordable to ordinary Filipinos—from transcription apps to content creation and productivity tools. These technologies, he said, lower barriers for individuals and small businesses, allowing them to do more with limited resources.

He pointed to the experience of creators and entrepreneurs who now rely on AI-powered tools to shorten workflows that once took days into tasks that can be completed in minutes. “There are AI applications today that are affordable, easy to use, and immediately useful,” Jimenez said. “The key is helping people understand which tools make sense for them—and giving them the confidence to try.”

That focus on accessibility is reflected in PLDT Group’s broader push to democratize AI through infrastructure investments and community-based programs. The company has invested heavily in AI-ready infrastructure, anchored by its integrated fixed and wireless networks and the VITRO Sta. Rosa (VSR) hyperscale data center in Laguna, the country’s first facility built specifically to support AI workloads. VSR, inaugurated in 2025 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, sits at the heart of the country’s growing technology corridor south of Metro Manila.

VSR also hosts Pilipinas AI, the country’s first sovereign AI solutions stack, designed to help Philippine enterprises and institutions deploy AI without having to build or manage their own infrastructure. By keeping data and workloads hosted locally, Pilipinas AI enables both public and private sector users to access advanced AI capabilities while ensuring data sovereignty and security.

Beyond enterprise applications, PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. are extending AI upskilling to communities through initiatives such as AI-in-a-Box, which provides connectivity, tools, training, and support to local government units, schools, MSMEs, media organizations, and community groups. Launched in 2025, the program has reached learners and organizations from Baguio to BARMM, helping demystify AI and show how it can be applied in practical, day-to-day settings.

At the policy level, Jimenez also highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between government and industry, particularly as the country implements the Konektadong Pinoy Act. He said ongoing dialogue with the DICT and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has helped address early concerns from telcos, including clearer definitions around spectrum utilization and safeguards related to pricing regulation for players with significant market power.

“The real measure of success,” Jimenez added, echoing President Marcos, “is how much these policies improve Filipino lives. Faster or cheaper internet only matters if it actually makes life better.”

That principle also guides PLDT and Smart’s continued investments in connectivity for remote and underserved communities. PLDT tested Radisys point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access technology, which delivers fiber-like speeds over-the-air through a single base node connecting to remote radio nodes in customer premises. The company also piloted Google’s Taara laser communication technology, delivering fiber-like speeds using beams of light instead of undersea or underground cables, to sites like Talim Island in Rizal, Dipaluda in Isabela, and Bagong Pag-asa in Quezon City. Smart has also partnered with Lynk Global to enable direct-to-device satellite-powered mobile connectivity, allowing users to send SMS and use apps like WhatsApp even when cell services are unavailable.

Working with government agencies, local government units, and private sector partners, PLDT and Smart have also pushed to streamline permitting processes and accelerate network rollouts, ensuring that digital services reach communities that need them most. These efforts support national programs such as Konektadong CHED and the Bayanihan SIM initiative, which aim to expand access to education and mobile connectivity in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

“Our mission is simple: reach more Filipinos by delivering meaningful connections and experiences,” Jimenez said. “By working closely with government and industry partners, we can deploy stronger, more resilient networks—and ensure that new technologies like AI create real opportunities for people across the country.”

As AI continues to reshape economies and workplaces worldwide, PLDT’s message at the Philippine Telco Summit was clear: the future will belong to those who adapt. For Filipinos, Jimenez said, the future begins with learning, collaboration, and the confidence to pivot.

DICT and YGG Pilipinas Collaborate to Bring Digital Career Opportunities to Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA, PALAWAN YGG Pilipinas’ Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) Caravan — a traveling roadshow bringing the future of work to local communities across the Philippines — is rolling into Puerto Princesa, Palawan, on Friday, July 25, 2025. With support from government agencies including the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Education (DepEd), and the local government of Puerto Princesa, the Caravan showcases how digital infrastructure, community education, and inclusive upskilling programs can create new pathways for work in remote areas.

Formerly known as the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip, the MFW Caravan is an annual grassroots initiative advancing AI and Web3 adoption nationwide, with previous stops in Bacolod, Baguio, Batangas, Cebu, Davao, and Manila. In June 2025, the Caravan expanded its reach to Bicol, drawing over 1,300+ attendees, including students, freelancers, gamers, esports athletes, and moms exploring digital careers. Its upcoming Palawan leg continues the mission to make the future of work accessible for all Filipinos.

“For decades, the story of the Filipino worker has been one of sacrifice, but today, a new generation is redefining this narrative,” said Mench Dizon, Country Head of YGG Pilipinas. “Through the MFW movement, we’re proving that it’s possible to build a global career, earn with dignity, and stay close to the people who matter most. We are working for a future where Filipinos no longer have to leave the country to succeed because the opportunities right here are just as good, if not better.”

YGG Pilipinas is a community-driven organization that originated in Web3 gaming, recognizing the power of play as a gateway for upskilling Filipinos in emerging technologies. Today, it builds on that foundation to help Filipinos access meaningful work in the global digital economy. Through initiatives like Metaversity — its free online learning platform offering practical training in creative, technical, and business skills — YGG Pilipinas is opening doors to digital careers in areas like content creation, game development, and community management. These roles are not only in high demand globally, but can also be done entirely from home, making them especially viable for those outside traditional urban centers.

At the heart of the MFW Caravan are programs designed to turn inspiration into action. The Metaversity platform’s free, on-demand Crash Courses help learners quickly build knowledge in marketing, productivity, and leadership — core skills for navigating careers in AI, Web3 gaming, and other emerging tech fields. Those who complete the courses can advance to the Marshal Program, a cohort-based learning experience focused on four in-demand tracks: Community, Marketing, Gaming, and Content Creation. To date, over 2,100 learners have completed Crash Courses, with more than 650 graduating from the Marshal Program.

“The work we’ve done is about access and equity,” said DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin. “We are building the digital highways and ensuring that people, regardless of where they live, have a way to use them. The MFW Caravan reflects a crucial shift in how Filipinos approach work — one that embraces digital skills, borderless opportunities, and economic empowerment without the need to go overseas. At the DICT, we see the value in initiatives like this that help prepare our workforce for what’s next by expanding awareness and promoting upskilling in emerging fields like Web3 and AI. These efforts are laying the foundation for a more inclusive and resilient digital economy.”

Through years of investment and local engagement, the DICT has laid critical foundations for digital transformation in Palawan. With over 1,000 free Wi-Fi sites, 160+ Tech4Ed Centers, floating ICT classrooms, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) connectivity, digital signatures, and initiatives targeting indigenous peoples (IPs), women, students, and persons deprived of liberty, Palawan is showcasing its efforts to bridge the digital divide, empower communities, and support regional growth in education, healthcare, and the economy.

Earlier this month, the DICT also launched “Trabahong Digital,” which vowed to create 8 million digital jobs by 2028. To achieve this, the department also aims to secure connectivity in the country, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

The Palawan leg of the MFW Caravan will demonstrate how inclusive, tech-enabled career pathways can come to life when national infrastructure and policy meet culturally relevant, community-first programming. From interactive game showcases to storytelling sessions with digital workers, the event brings the future of work to people who have historically been excluded from it.

Pinoys Become More ‘Madiskarte’ in 2024 - Packworks Study

December 2024 Manila, Philippines — Filipinos have embraced the local proverb, "Kapag maiksi ang kumot, matutong mamaluktot" (when the blanket is short, learn to bend) in 2024, navigating rising prices with resourceful purchasing habits.

This resilience is highlighted in the latest Sari IQ report by Packworks, a Filipino startup that provides a business-to-business (B2B) open platform to sari-sari stores, providing a snapshot of the state of the grassroots retail sector in the country.

The study reveals that sales of seasoning mix items grew by 80% compared to the previous year, while recipe mix sales surged by 72%. Additionally, the seasoning mix was sold in 69% more sari-sari stores, while the recipe mix saw an even greater reach, expanding to 79% more locations.

These trends reflect the resourcefulness of Filipino households, who are stretching their budgets by buying cost-effective additives to enhance cheaper ingredients sourced from wet markets. As prices continue to rise, many Filipinos find ways to make their money go further.

"The resilience of Filipinos shines through in the way they adapt their purchasing habits to make ends meet. These insights highlight not only the shifting preferences of sari-sari store customers but also their enduring ingenuity in navigating economic challenges," said Andoy Montiel, Packworks’ Chief Data Officer.

The report also showed that the Bicol region (Region V) recorded the highest sales growth this year, with over PHP 616 million in gross merchandise value (GMV) from sari-sari store transactions this year, moving up four positions compared to 2023. Compared to last year’s study, CALABARZON (Region IV-A) (PHP 1.9 billion), Central Luzon (Region III) (PHP 1.02 billion), Cagayan Valley (Region II) (PHP 979 million), Ilocos Region (Region I) (PHP 811 million), and Central Visayas (Region VII) (PHP 695 million) remained the top regions with the highest GMV.

"The sales growth in Bicol can be attributed to the increase in the number of sari-sari stores in our network in the region,"
Montiel explained. "Additionally, we've observed that rural, agriculture-based regions like Bicol remain more dependent on sari-sari stores than modern trade stores such as groceries."

Packworks compiled the findings from its network of over 300,000 sari-sari stores nationwide through its business intelligence tool Sari IQ. Launched in 2022, it utilizes data analytics to understand and predict consumer behavior, enabling retailers and multinational brands to make data-driven decisions that boost sales for sari-sari store owners and expand their product offerings to a larger customer base.

Packworks hosts inaugural Sari-Sari Store Innovation Summit

Packworks unveiled these insights during its first-ever Sari-Sari Store Innovation Summit in Taguig City. The event brought together key figures and decision-makers from some of the country’s most prominent FMCG brands, distributors, and policymakers to delve into how technology and collaboration can address the challenges faced by sari-sari stores, from digitalization to economic empowerment.

Among those present was Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Former Undersecretary Ed Sunico, who gave his keynote speech highlighting the role of sari-sari stores in the country.

"Sari-sari stores remain the fastest-growing channel compared to modern trade per year-on-year, serving as an indispensable part of the sales ecosystem in the Philippines. Despite this, many stores are still operating informally, do not have access to government support and financing, and are behind in technology adoption," Sunico said.

He highlighted public-private partnerships as essential to empowering the sector, citing the DTI’s “Tindahan Mo, e-Level Up Mo!” program, launched in collaboration with organizations like Packworks to support and digitalize MSMEs.

The event also featured a panel on leveraging data and technology to transform the retail supply chain. Moderated by Packworks Chief Marketing Officer Ibba Bernardo, the panel included industry leaders like Miko David, President of David & Golyat; Jojo Malolos, CEO of Paymongo; Richard Sanchez, Sales Director of Unilever RFM (Selecta); and Jill Que, Sales Director of Alaska Milk Corporation.

“Together with our partners, we are committed to providing sari-sari stores with business success that they would not have achieved without technology. As we build our network of stores, let’s imagine a future for them beyond digitization," said Packworks CEO Bing Tan as he closed this year’s event.

Bossjob Introduces AI Photo Generator to Elevate Career Profiles for Job Seekers

October 2024, Manila, Philippines — Aimed at strengthening its suite of innovative hiring solutions, Bossjob, the chat-based, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered recruitment platform in Southeast Asia (SEA), announces the launch of its latest feature, the AI Photo Generator, designed to empower job seekers to easily create professional photo and help them stand out in today’s competitive job market.

Bossjob’s AI Photo Generator enables users to create multiple polished, professional-grade headshots in just ten seconds. Users can easily update their profile picture by selecting a template for males and females that matches their skin tone and race and can generate their photo by uploading an image or taking a clear front-facing selfie. The tool allows users to store up to five AI-generated images in their database.

The new feature offers users a personalized way to create profile photos using over 14 templates tailored to gender, skin tones, and backgrounds. By using machine learning (ML) to analyze users' facial features and optimize lighting, composition, and professionalism, the tool generates high-quality images to support users’ job-hunting journey.

The feature is available for free and reflects Bossjob’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline line recruitment processes through optimized resumes and CVs.

“This new feature aims to help job seekers build a strong personal brand. Research shows that hiring managers often make snap judgments based on first impressions. We provide our users with tools to create standout headshots that can make all the difference in capturing attention,” stated Kimberly Chen, Country Manager of Bossjob.

The feature launch aligns with the broader industry shift, as the majority of hiring managers are now open to considering AI-generated resumes. With this new tool, Bossjob enables users not only to thrive in a digital-first job market but also to make a strong impression, elevate their credibility, engage more effectively with employers, and strengthen their personal branding.

“To embrace AI while making the human workforce invaluable, job seekers can continuously leverage emerging technologies, upskill, and swiftly respond to changes in the job market by aligning with new trends,” Kimberly Chen emphasized.

The Philippine-born recruitment platform recently reached a milestone when it surpassed 4 million registered users in the country.

Bossjob started in 2018 with its Model Driven Development (MDD) of "mobile + direct chat + AI-matching," introducing direct chat into the recruitment scene. With the help of AI technologies and big data, the platform recommends highly suitable and active candidates to employers and job opportunities to job seekers.

In January, Bossjob also introduced additional features aimed at simplifying access to international jobs and remote work opportunities. Recruiters from around the world can connect with talent across Asia, including the Philippines, by selecting the 'International' option in posting job openings and targeting specific countries for top talent. Meanwhile, job seekers can select the "Remote Jobs" section, making it easier to browse opportunities that best match their skills and preferences.

Bossjob Introduces AI-Powered Recruitment Solutions for SMEs at National Retail Conference Expo 2024

September 2024, Manila, PhilippinesBossjob, the chat-first career platform for professional hiring in Southeast Asia (SEA), showcased its innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven solutions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at the National Retail Conference Expo (NRCE) 2024.

NRCE, the largest and longest-running retail event in the Philippines, organized by the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA), celebrates 30 years of shaping the retail industry. This year’s theme, “Retail Today, Empowering Tomorrow,” reflects Bossjob’s mission to empower businesses in today’s evolving job market. The platform's innovative tools are designed to help small retailers embrace digital transformation and streamline their hiring operations.

With over 99% of businesses in the Philippines classified as SMEs, talent acquisition remains a challenge. Moreover, 89% of Filipino business leaders recognize the critical role AI plays in maintaining competitiveness. Bossjob’s AI-driven platform directly addresses these needs by optimizing recruitment processes and providing valuable career opportunities to job seekers.

"Businesses need to adapt quickly as the digital landscape is fast-evolving. Our participation at this year's NRCE is a key opportunity for SMEs to experience firsthand how AI can simplify recruitment, enhance candidate matching, and increase visibility to job seekers. By leveraging AI, we help businesses find the right talent faster, make smarter hiring decisions, and stay competitive in an increasingly challenging market," said Kimberly Chen, Country Manager of Bossjob.

During the two-day event, Bossjob offered a free subscription to its platform, allowing SMEs and retailers to experience advanced AI-driven tools for talent discovery and hiring at no initial cost. With direct chat and AI-matching capabilities, Bossjob connects employers with ideal candidates efficiently, reducing information asymmetry and accelerating recruitment.

Bossjob offers SMEs a modern recruitment platform as legacy hiring websites become outdated and fail to meet the current demand for cost-effective hiring solutions. Many companies still rely on headhunters, but with commission rates typically ranging from 20-30% of a hire's annual salary, this can be financially challenging for SMEs. By incorporating AI, Bossjob aims to optimize the hiring process, enabling SMEs to efficiently find top talent with affordable pricing and a user-friendly app interface.

Since its inception in 2018, the Philippine-born recruitment platform has been at the forefront of leveraging AI and advanced technologies to transform professional hiring. By integrating direct chat and AI-matching capabilities, Bossjob effectively connects suitable candidates with employers, enhancing the recruitment process.

Last year, over 80% of job seekers on the Bossjob platform initiated chats with employers, resulting in an impressive employer response rate of 70% and a successful matching rate of approximately 50%. These high engagement levels underscore the platform's effectiveness in enhancing talent prospects for small businesses.

Currently, Bossjob is used by more than 10,000 companies in the Philippines, with over 4 million active users. With a growing presence in Asia, including the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, and Hong Kong, Bossjob aims to reach over 30 million users in SEA by 2026.

Bossjob Expands Services in Bicol to Offer Employment Opportunities to Local Job Seekers, Bolster Recruitment

August 2024, Philippines – Bossjob, the chat-first career platform revolutionizing professional hiring in Southeast Asia (SEA), is bolstering its expansion efforts in the regions in the Philippines following its successful events in the Bicol region, bringing job opportunities to connect job seekers and hiring managers outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

Having garnered a strong applicant base in Metro Manila, Bossjob is set to boost job markets in other regions. Through strategic partnerships with government agencies, non-government associations, communities, and academic institutions in Bicol, Bossjob aims to enhance employment prospects in other Philippine cities. This initiative supports businesses in their recruitment efforts and stimulates economic growth in the country.

Bossjob's significant strides in Bicol include signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI). This agreement aims to streamline recruitment processes for MNCCI’s 500+ business members and provide job opportunities to locals. The event, held at the Sundaze Events Center in Naga City, was attended by Naga City Mayor Hon. Nelson Legacion, local government representatives, and MNCCI officials.

Continuing its momentum, Bossjob secured five strategic partnerships at The Oriental Hotel Legazpi. These partnerships with the Albay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Albay Information and Communications Technology Association (AICTA), Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation, Inc. (SLTCFI), Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation Pilar, Inc., and Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation Pio Duran, Inc., are designed to enhance recruitment processes and create job opportunities for the community.

The ceremonies in Naga City and Legazpi City were graced by regional and provincial directors from key government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Tourism (DOT), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and respective local governments.

Bossjob Country Manager Kimberly Chen says the expansion efforts in Bicol align with the hiring platform’s commitment to ensuring access to job opportunities for Filipinos.

"Our mission has always been to ensure that job opportunities are accessible to all Filipinos, regardless of location. By partnering with local government agencies, business associations, and educational institutions, we aim to invigorate the job market in Bicol and other regions. This initiative not only supports local businesses in their recruitment processes but also contributes to the broader economic growth of the Philippines. We are excited to bring more opportunities to job seekers outside Metro Manila and to help bridge the employment gap in regional areas,” Chen said.

Chen and Bossjob Sales Director Feby Joy Llosala-Luneza represented the company during the events.

The country is experiencing a paradigm shift post-COVID pandemic, with more people leaving Metro Manila. Before the pandemic, internal migration was prevalent, with many people moving from the provinces to the metro primarily driven by economic reasons. While surveys indicate that NCR remains the top destination for first-time migrants, there is a growing demand for housing in areas outside the capital, suggesting that more people are choosing to stay in the region. This trend underscores the need for job opportunities in key provincial cities nationwide, which Bossjob is committed to addressing.

Since entering the Philippine market in 2018, Bossjob has been an active player in energizing the local job market. With its innovative mobile, direct chat, and AI-matching model, Bossjob connects highly suitable candidates with employers and matches job seekers with relevant opportunities. As a result, over 80% of job seekers initiate chats with employers upon joining the platform, and employers respond at an impressive average rate of 70%. These interactions have led to a successful matching rate of approximately 50%.

Earlier this year, Bossjob announced a partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-National Capital Region (TESDA-NCR) to boost the employability of technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates.

Currently serving over 3 million active users in the Philippines and other Asian markets, including Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, Bossjob aims to reach over 30 million users in SEA by 2026. As part of its global expansion efforts, it has started offering free services this year.

Bossjob launches new features to provide better job-hunting experience for SEA talents for 2024

30 January 2024 - Bossjob, the chat-first career platform revolutionizing professional hiring in Southeast Asia (SEA), is making career opportunities even more within reach for talents as they introduce new features to enable them to access jobs from abroad and remote work opportunities easily.

The hiring platform has officially launched a new feature allowing recruiters from around the world to connect with talent across parts of Asia, including the Philippines. Employers can now post their job openings globally on the Bossjob website by selecting the 'International' option and targeting specific countries where they seek top talent.

This feature not only facilitates outsourcing and remote team setups but also helps establish employer presence in previously unsupported regions. With the new feature, Bossjob aims to help companies reduce recruitment costs and streamline their cross-border hiring processes.

Bossjob's new feature comes particularly timely in helping employers seize opportunities to attract top talent. It is anticipated that individuals will be reassessing their career paths at the start of 2024. The start of a new year typically serves as a period for introspection and the setting of resolutions, leading many to reevaluate their professional aspirations and strive to begin the year on a positive note.

Moreover, Bossjob particularly sees the importance of making these job opportunities more accessible to Filipinos. The Philippines Freelance Market 2022 Report suggested many Filipinos thrive as freelancers, benefitting from overseas freelancing opportunities.

Meanwhile, the platform has also launched the remote jobs section, making it easier for talents to scroll around the opportunities that best suit them. Job seekers can easily go to the "Remote Jobs" section of the Bossjob website and check hundreds of remote job positions across various industries, including information technology, customer service, human resources, sales, finance, manufacturing, banking, and healthcare.

Bossjob CEO Anthony Garcia says the company hopes to bring opportunities not only closer but more accessible to more Filipinos.

“With our new international feature and dedicated remote jobs section, we're not just expanding horizons, but we're actively dismantling barriers to global employment and fostering a more inclusive, accessible job market. At Bossjob, we believe that a great career should be accessible to everyone, everywhere, and our latest features are a significant step towards making that belief a reality,” Garcia said.

Preference for remote work among job seekers continues to rise

Starting in Q3 of 2023, Bossjob began supporting hybrid and remote job opportunities, leading to a significant increase in such listings. The number of jobs posted in these categories has since doubled, underscoring a growing trend in the employment market.

Key industries embracing this trend include Information Technology (IT), sales, and emerging web3 sectors. Remote roles in high demand range from sales representatives and accountants to administrative assistants and business development managers.

The introduction of these flexible work options has led to a substantial increase in job seeker interest. Bossjob reports a sevenfold rise in the number of candidates seeking remote or hybrid work arrangements, with about 32% of its over 3 million active job seekers exploring these options.

The preference for remote work extends across various job categories, with customer service representatives (CSR), entry-level jobs, and IT roles being particularly sought after.

In addition to increased demand, Bossjob's data shows salaries for hybrid work arrangements are equally attractive to those opportunities that require people to work on-site. For instance, remote CSR roles offer an average salary of Php 29,000, compared to the Php 27,000 average pay for on-site positions.

Bossjob's expansion to supporting remote and hybrid work opportunities reflects a broader global trend and demonstrates the platform's commitment to evolving with the changing job market dynamics.

"In a rapidly evolving job market, Bossjob is at the forefront of the shift towards a project-based economy in the Philippines. Our data shows not just a trend but a reflection of a deeper change in work preferences. As we continue to champion this shift, Bossjob remains committed to connecting talent with forward-thinking employers, reshaping the workforce for a more dynamic and adaptable future,” Garcia said.

With a growing presence in Asia, including the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, and Hong Kong, Bossjob aims to reach over 30 million users in SEA by 2026. As part of its efforts to expand its global market, it has started offering free services this year.
